Send midi note/CC to controller based on device on/off

hello,

I am looking for advice / recommendations for an existing max4live device that sends a midi note/CC based on if an ableton device is turned on/off. Essentially LED feedback.

I am using an akai mini mkII, which is a massive pain, and doesnt provide LED feedback when using Midi learn within ableton (also, it's LED brightness is based on the MIDI channel, which adds another layer of complexity). For some reason other akai controllers do this out of the box (apc40 Mkii, LPD8).

I've successfully done this with a dumb-simple method in ableton (no max4live). Basically for every pad, i have 2 midi channels constantly shooting midi notes at it by midi-out on the track. One midi channel sends a white color(off), and the other midi channel sends red color (on). LED color is based on the note velocity. I've mapped both midi tracks' on/off button to the pad, so when i press the pad, it goes back and forth between both midi tracks, and gives the effect that the pad is turning something on/off

i then map that pad to the actual device on/off, and have it correlate with the midi tracks, so the appropriate color (red) shows up when the device is on.

The issue is that the LED feedback is not actually tied to the device. I could mouse click the device on, and the colors no longer correlate.

Also, im doing this with roughly 40 pads, each having 2 midi tracks firing at them, so 80 in total constantly sending midi messages. Seems like there should be a more streamlined way to do this lol.

Could anyone point me in the direction of a max4live solution for this situation?
