Sending MIDI data from Max to Ableton

Hi all.

I am trying to send note data from Max to Ableton Live to play certain notes for certain key inputs using LoopMidi as a virtual midi cable.

Ableton will ONLY play the notes if Max is open in front of it like in the included screenshot. If Max is minimized or not open at all, Ableton will not play anything in response to the keys. What could be causing this issue? I know that Ableton is receiving midi data from Max in some form because the notes play when Max is open.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

It is normal that a window is loosing the keyboard focus when it's not in the foreground.

Any reason that you don't use the keyboard2midi directly in Live? Or map keyboard keys to live.* UI elements in a m4l device?

another problem is that if both input and output of loopMIDI are checked in max, it cannot work.

in max : uncheck "input" / check "output"
in live : check "input" / uncheck "output"
