I want to remote control the predelay of Fabfilter ProR, but the parameter is not linear. 

The PreDelay is from 0 - 500 ms. Sending 

How do I set [scale~ 0. 1. 0. 1. ??] to match the curve?

I used this to work it out by trial and error:

So how does that work? How could one reason that out without an experiment?

@11Olsen Or more to the point (by reading the reference page), what is an old IRCAM patcher?

log10, log20, log90 is what is mostly used inside the plug-ins

@Andy I think the scale object was developed at IRCAM and they used an unusual formula for the exponential value. That is refered to as classic mode which is default for [scale] but not for [scale~]. Max devs don't want to change this default as it would break many old patchers where [scale] has been used.

Edit: I noticed the value you're looking for is 0.30103 which is log 2.

@double_ug That only works if you set @classic 1

 0.30103 is not 100% right, but close enough. I never get this curve stuff.

Goal: Accurately set Ableton's Arpeggiator Rate parameter from Max For Live.

Problem: Ableton is doing some weird scaling, and I cannot figure it out.

Question: Does anyone know of a way I can scale input values from 10-1000 that will give me the below output ranges?

When I hookup a live.observer, I can see the Rate parameter outputs float values between 0 and 1.

From the Ableton UI, I can enter values between 10 and 1000 milliseconds.

When I set Ableton's UI to 10, the observed output is 0. When I set Ableton's UI to 100, the observed output is 0.5. When I set Ableton's UI to 1000, the observed output is 1.

I have been trying to work with scale (not scale~) to send some input values from Max For Live to the Rate parameter that will match what I observe when I set the Ableton parameter from the UI, but I am stuck.
