I am looking for a simple still image triggering applet (pref MIDI notes) to trigger .png or .jpg music charts for a live band situation. I have looked around quite a bit and am seeing all kinds of things for complex video manipulation but I just want to throw still images to a distro of small video monitors.

Maybe have a look at the jit.gl.textureset-example.maxpat (File -> Show File Browser).

Attach midi input to the "outputtexture $1" via [scale] to map midi note numbers to frame numbers. 

Your images must be stored in a video file for using this.
