Smoothly changing the rate of video playback
I'm trying to smoothly change the rate of video playback. Here is my simple patch:
Unfortunately, moving the slider causes the video to stutter and lag. Is there a way to smoothly alter the rate while the video is playing?
probably depends on the size and format of the movie, the speed of your hard drive and if you can load it into ram first. I don't have max 7, so don't know if this is relevant but maybe use the loadram message
EDIT: Solved it!
I thought the loadram message was gone from Max 7, but it just seems to be undocumented in the help files, plus it doesn't work with the avf engine. Once I changed the engine to qt and used loadram, now the rate changes smoothly. Thanks for your help!
more a lucky guess!
just to clarify, legacy loadram functionality is availalable in 32 bit qt engine only.
newer loadram functionality is available via the viddll engine (both platforms and architectures).
I see, using @engine viddll seems to work as well. Thanks!
I noticed the video starts to lag when the rate goes above around 10, but I'm guessing that's just a limitation of my hardware.
