Sound Scape Project - help?
Hey guys,
im relatively new to MaxMSP and im undertaking a project that i need a little help with:
i have adjusted a stephosocpe into a microphone with the intention of recording a heatbeat
i want to run this sound into maxMSP then have various effects and parameters evolve the simple sound into a sound scape
the first herdle was the stephoscope... it picks up a lot of the other sounds when trying to record a heart beat... so ideally i want to record a short sample that loops with adjustable start and stop times so i can select the sound that i want
once the heartbeat is recorded i was thinking of using a randomised granular synthetiser that changes its peramiters over time in conjuntion with a system that increases the speed of the loop every time the loop have been played once...
with some automated reverb and a bit of compression i intent to turn a simple heartbeat into an interesting sound scape
any help or ideas that anyone has for this would be hugely apreciated
thanks, Alex
hey, this will require a good knowledge of max ! you should attack the tutorials head-on :)
but : for recording and looping, maybe have a look at karma~ (find it on these forums)
for granularization, there are examples in the built-in max exemples (Help>Examples>Sampling>Granular>Granularized)
for reverb, there is gigaverb which is in the gen examples folder (Help>Examples>Gen>gen~.gigaverb)
compression : omx.comp~ (you have 10 msp tutorials about compression, in the Max documentation, MSP, tutorials) or again in Examples>Effects>kompressor or simple kompressor
to tie everything together, there's a lot of solutions ! try [qlist] if you like it, or make a lot of presets with [pattrstorage] which control [gate~] to stop some sounds
or maybe, use each effect in separate patchers and an audio sequencer later to put everything together
heartbeats have a very peculiar, intensely meaningful sounds. the result could definitely be interesting. good luck !
