Spectral Gating using pfft
hi! what it can be a good solution to create a a spectral gate that isolate frequencies , using the fft ?
You would certainly use the [pfft~] object.
If you've never used it, study the built-in MSP tutorial "Advanced Fourier Analysis".
Then, well, if by spectral gate you mean the sort of rough denoiser that would floor to 0 the energy in a given frequency bin if the amplitude is under a given threshold, then you pfft~ subpatch could be as simple as this:
For an example of this you could take a look at gen~.pfft_example.maxpat in the gen~ examples folder :-)
Or, for a more complex example, search for "Forbidden-Planet" in Max's File browser.
thanks for the patch! how can improve the patch you send me to make it sound less bubbly with some maths operations?
the whole idea is be able to gate and cross bands of frequencies for instance (8) (using knobs of a controller midi) and ''connect each fq'' to a different slider of a multi-tap delay with for instance 8 tap, here the the raw patch
don't consider the mess on the right side of the patch :) thanks!!! greetings from Italy!
