super-newb Max For Live: "presentation mode" appearance not represented in Live device
greetings everyone
i'm working on my very first Max For Live tutorial. it's going well but for one minor detail:
the appearance of the simple device created in Max (a volume meter) isn't reflected exactly in the Live device pane.
viewing the device in Max using "presentation mode" derives the "expected result" - i see only the meters and the visual deflection behavior.
in Live however, the appearance of the device also includes the default element (Audio from Live / plugin~ / plugout~ / Audio to Live).
i believe that i have followed the tutorial as closely as possible, but it seems to me to reference an earlier version of Max for Live - look & feel are different than what i have, as are certain menu options. i thought i had made the necessary adjustments to accommodate for the differences -- including locking, saving, etc... but clearly i'm missing something because the PRESENTATION MODE appearance in MAX isn't being reflected in LIVE.
i'm pretty sure i'm getting the expected functionality from my little tutorial and i'm aware that the niceities of device appearance are pretty secondary when it comes to concerns, but still... it would be kind of reassuring (and i would be just-plain-psyched) also to see the thing LOOK right!
i hope that i have provided enough detail to answer this very rudimentary question. i'm brand new (as of today!) to MAX programming and i just don't know what the usual parameters to report would be. don't worry, though -- i'll get there!
all the best
robert
Hi Robert,
You need to set "open in presentation mode" in the patcher inspector. Just hit cmd+shift+i when you have your patch open. Open in presentation is default 0
Kind regards
Len
Thank you, Len!
Could you please confirm one additional aspect for me?
While trying to solve this for myself, I was looking for "Open In Presentation" in the inspector for the meter itself, but I did not see the O.i.P option specifically listed there. (I believe there was an option for "present in presentation", or something similar...?)
This gave me the impression that perhaps a version change in the software had moved or renamed that option.
However, your answer now suggests to me a different possibility: I was looking at the OBJECT's inspector, not the "Patcher Inspector".
Are these indeed two different helper utilities?
Thank you again!
Robert
Don't worry Robert. You may not have any object selected in order to open the Patcher Inspector.
thanks len - it worked!
do i understand correctly that "the patcher" has its own inspector (perhaps a sort of "global" inspector for the item being created, if i may oversimplify without risking mis-interpretation) and that each object may also have its own inspector?
much appreciation,
robert
