Syphon – combine static images and video, send to Resolume Avenue

Hi there,

I'm pretty new to using Max for images/video - I hope some of you might be able to point me in the right direction when it comes to using Syphon.

I'm trying to build a patch that lets me combine images and video to send to a Syphon server (and then send the resulting output to Resolume Avenue). So far, I'm able to combine videos, but I haven't been able to figure out how to combine images and video. Any tips on how I can combine many forms of imagery and send it to Syphon?

If you look at the patch below I was getting pretty close to doing what I wanted, but there must be something fundamental I'm not understanding about how matrices are combined.

Also – I'm unclear about why I need two Syphon server elements to output video to Resolume. As you can see in the patch, the first Syphon element sends a matrix into a jit.world object which then passes a jit_gl_texture to a different Syphon element. Why can't I just send it from the first Syphon element. Why add jit.world?

If the answer to these questions are "you need to spend more time doing Max tutorials" that's completely fair, by the way. (If you have any tutorial recommendations, I'd appreciate if you posted them!)

Ah! It looks like I got the wrong blend mode on my jit.op object. It's working now.

I'm still wondering why I need to the two different Syphon objects though...

Here's the new patch:
