THAT webcam question again (recommendations)
Hi guys,
I'm working on a patch that uses a webcam in changing light conditions. However I DON'T want the webcam to alter focus or iris, I need the light conditions to alter without the camera adjusting to get the best image. With the camera I'm using it's not possible to disable these functions through macam or any other software so...
can you recommend a webcam that is capable of the following:
* plays nice with max on OSX
* allows you to turn OFF autofocus and iris changes
* can do HD video (720x576 absolute minimum)
* USB preferable although firewire is an option
* won't massively break the bank
Thanks!
If it wasn't for the resolution, I'd reccomend the PS3 Eye. (even better, a custom version: http://peauproductions.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=136_1_109 )
However, it's only 640x480...
I've been using the PS3eye. You cant kill the autofocus on it.
logitech c920 is very good and full hd but with Max 6 I had to grab it with quartz composer and send it via syphon to get the 30fps. Max 7 grabber seems to be fine.
Logitech has an app on the app store to control exposure/focus....

Also note that:

@yoann thanx a lot !!!
i have c920 too, it seems there is no auto exposure on/off setting ... ?

well , i got this :
http://www.mac-compatible-web-cam.com/osx-software/webcam-drivers.html
( IF you are Mac )
Look in the app store for a app called "webcam settings" - it allows a ton of control over Logitech (and maybe more) webcams. Including auto- load user defined settings on launch. I consider it essential part of my VJ stuff, simply because of the control over exposure and such. Worth every penny and more. Allows lotsa different preset settings for different gigs
I have a C270 that this combo works great thru
Hope this helps
Ahhh just saw it in the list you had.... Mactaris - yes that's the one... I love it.
Also, for anybody considering a Mac webcam check this list below first, would have saved me several trips to the store and getting webcams that were iffy with my Mac. Am not sure how current the list is, but if it is not on this list beware, flakeyness might well be in your future
