i notice you guys waited 'til 2 days after the fact to announce it. any reason why? is the version available today same as the update posted 2 days ago which is already discussed in several threads before this one? or should we download fresh today?
(or were you all on vacation again or something?)

In fact, Max 5.1.5 was released yesterday, not two days ago. Like a nice fruit pie, it is best served after it has cooled just a bit.

The installers haven't changed at all. The download is the same today as it was yesterday.

what is this 'GC' mentioned in the jsliveapi bits? i posted a question asking what after what the jsliveapi bugs described were, but maybe i just 'need' to know what GC is. please and thank you, of course :-)

GC most likely stands for 'Garbage Collection'. I don't have javascript experience, only java, but if its used in the same manner then this basically refers to a routine cleaning up unused memory space when it becomes available.

For example; a variable locally defined and used in a function is most likely 'free' when said function came to an end.

makes sense, thanks.

Hello Ben,it is great to see cycling keeps going!
I had a look at the upgrades and I saw to my surprise, that the VST object had three upgrades alone. I use this object a lot because we have not really achieved a 'cycling74' synthesizer....
I wondered, if now would not be the time to upgrade to VST 3? The sdk kit is out.

Isn't it an option to send a email to max users when a new version is released? Sometimes it happens that I don't know there is a new version for weeks. Sometimes my students work with really old versions because they don't check either. I think I'm not the only one.

I checked if there was an option in the user profile but I couldn't find it. Just a thought.

ya, so many people have this problem, but cycling74 is too small to care about that(these forums are here to help keep support manageable for such a small company... if they didn't exist and you were to ask support every question that ever appeared on these forums, you wouldn't have gotten as many answers... users tend to be more creative and artistic than the devs and support people who are just too busy to know half the creative answers; i've heard that even David Zicarelli doesn't actually enjoy using the visual environment of Max/MSP... because he's more of a code-person... i think that's fair enough, too). cycling74 is also a company based in America... y'know... going out of your way to be considerate is not what Americans do at all ;)

"I wondered, if now would not be the time to upgrade to VST 3?"
+1, (especially since pluggo is dead and M4L is hardly a substitute...)... but then again, many DAWs have not even upgraded their support yet, either(like Ableton).

• jit.openexr includes Cg frameworks automatically when making a standalone
• DSP Status patcher is now automatically included in a standalone application

Thank you!

Hi danny, one way around that problem is to make cycling74 your homepage. That's what I did....

Danny de Graan's icon

LOL....well I like my own website a bit more than the Cycling website but I have a look once a day ;-)

BTW I started today with my M4L workshop @ STEIM and we all encountered some problems with the translate object. Especially when you copy it it looses its settings and is really hard to get it back to work. You need to close the device patch and remove it out of Live. Then reload it but sometimes that doesn't work either. I think its a bug.

We are keeping track of all the bugs(?) and will post them at the end of the week.

Hi Danny, his is not a known issue with translate, so if you are able to isolate it at all, please send a bug report to support at cycling 74 dot com. I'll be sure to take a look.

Will do. Several people had the same problem on different machines and different copies of Max (8.1.3, 8.1.4 and 8.1.5) so its easy to isolate.

Will send a mail end of the week.

• jit.openexr includes Cg frameworks automatically when making a standalone

Could someone explain this to me, because this is not working on my MacBook Pro (Max 5.1.5, OSX 10.5.8). I am explicitly including jit.openexr in my build script but I still have to copy the Cg framework manually after building a standalone app.
