first time poster, just a few days into my M4L life

i'm trying to create a very simple M4L patch, thus far failing miserably.

what i would like to do is convert MIDI note and velocity to an automation envelope

it seems like this must be very simple but after hours of searching, and thnen a couple of hours of trying to build it myself, i haven't gotten anything going.

for my purposes, the m4l expression control is not usable (locks parameter)

I think you might need to rephrase/focus your question a bit. You want your MIDI notes to be translated into an auotmation envelope like Live's clip view but in a max for live device? Or do you just want you MIDI notes/velocity to be translated to a CC value so you can control parameters with notes/velocity?

This latter would be quite simple, the former would be considerably more difficult because the notion of a 'clip automation envelope' doesn't really exist in Max.
