Due to most examples of Java with Max only using one inlet I can't find any clear examples on how to do what seems to me to be the most basic thing.

I just want to have 3 variables (they could be an int or a float or a string)

I then want to assign a variable to an inlet.

Id then want to say send x+y out of outlet 0 , x+z out of outlet 1 and so on.

I just do not have the foggiest idea how to do it.

I truly wish the examples folder just had a few more super simple examples showing these kind of very basic things. All the examples include array declaration and a lot more semi advanced stuff to just do basic calculations.

I can program in Processing,basic javascript and get results quickly, I know how to process data, I just can't get it working with Max due to the lack of clarity for a beginner with the syntax. With every other object the help files show the most basic operation to more advanced examples. But the js examples and tutorials start at intermediate to advanced and the examples folder for math doesn't even just show how to just get two inlets and add them together with the minimum amount of code.

I think if cycling 74 would add some more very basic javascript operations (for beginners like me) then I could piece together how to use the js object efficiently. At this rate starting at intermediate just doesn't work.

Any help with a basic patch showing what I asked would be greatly appreciated.

Every (public) functions responds to every inlet. The "inlet" variable contains the index of the inlet in which the message was received, not the message itself or the arguments. You need to use it in order to do some filtering in your code:
