Trying to use Max to control my Arturia Microbrute

I've been trying to use Max to control the notes on my Arturia Microbrute analog synthesizer. I used both noteout & midiout, set both objects to Microbrute Midi (which I plugged in using USB), and tried to trigger notes using the noteout help patch. I troubleshooted to check for some things (connecting the microbrute to the midi port on my interface instead of usb to my computer, used the second dropdown for the hardware simply titled 'Microbrute', checked to make sure my synth was giving sound out to my interface) and still nothing.

Does anyone know of an extra step I may be missing or a fix to this?

TLDR; How do I cause note output using an external instrument through midi??
