URGENT! Hap engine on Windows
I have a large show coming up and have to transfer my setup onto a Windows Machine. It's Win 8.1.
I am using HAP-Codec for better performance. (The files are quiet big: 9600x1200).
I can not get the hap engine running on the windows machine. "jit.movie @engine hap @output_texture 1". It's not reading my files.
Originally they were .movs, but after reading around in the forum, I converted to avi, but still can't read them. The default viddlle engine can read the files, but performance is very bad. The Windows Media Player is also opening them without problems.
The computer itself shouldn't be the problem perfomance-wise, since it's Pro and using two grafic cards.
What am I missing? Please help, I am running out of time.
Thanks a lot,
rené
Update: I tried on another machine (Win7) and same problem there. My files can't be read with the hap engine. Is there something I have to be aware of about converting them correctly?
Additional question:
could it be a problem, to use two grafic cards? My videos (9600x1200) are streched across 5 Projectors. They cards are not identically, but with other software thats no problem. (a NVIDIA 970 and a 1060).
how did you convert the files to hap-avi? the only software that i've found to do this is Adobe Encoder. Can you playback the hap-avi file linked in the hap package launcher patch? http://downloads.renderheads.com/2014/sample-1080p30-Hap.avi
i also would never recommend stretching a single window context across two discrete GPUs (there should be no problem with separate outputs on the same GPU).
yep, output_texture means you are playing the movie with openGL of Max.
And an openGl context (world or window) in max can not be shared over two graphic cards. (the window can not strech over multi screens that are NOT pluged into the same GC)
Solution 1:
Stay on only 1 graphic card and add a matrox triplehead2Go to one of the DisplayPort output (gives you 1+2 more output).
Solution 2:
cut your movie in two sides. play each side on each graphic card independently.(render window ONLY on 1 card)
synchronise the 2 players through OSC.
@Rob: I converted with Adobe Mediaconverter. The test file you have linked is also not working.
@Rob + SPA. Thanks. Splitting the movies is not an option anymore. There is two much going on inside the patch. Does it make a difference splitting the final render into 2? (How would I do that?)
if the test file isn't working on a basic test patch ( [ jit.movie @engine hap @output_texture 1 ] to a [ jit.world @enable 1 ] ), then there's something wrong with your hap-package installation. i would try and sort that out first.
what kind of error messages are showing up in the console?
it was a fresh Max install. Just deinstalled it, and reinstalled it. Reinstalled the package from within the Max Package Manager. Still the same. Error is: "jit.movie - error loading sample-1080p30-Hap.avi"
Tried all the Hap-Engine versions. no luck.
Tried other computer (this time Win7). no luck.
Tried Max 64bit and Max32bit. no luck.
What else can I do?
Hey, any ideas what else to try to get the engine working except deinstalling?
I wish I could offer more suggestions, but all I can say is to make extra sure the hap package is installed correctly, meaning typing jit.movie @engine hap doesn't generate any errors.
I've confirmed with support that Hap is compatible with their windows 8 OS, but maybe there's something about different OS versions. On a fresh install of windows 10, the package works with no problems.
are you able to test any other software that supports hap on that machine?
anybody else have experience with hap on non-windows 10 machines?
ok, thank you. The Codec itself it's not the problem. Even the Windows Media-Player plays it and the jit.movie with viddle engine as well. Only "jit.movie @engine hap" gives the reading error.
Well, I will try on a Win10 as soon as I have one available.
Hello Rob,
I would like to come back to this thread.
Since I have a little bit of time now, I tried again with another Win8 install on another harddrive. This time it works well. God knows why.
Anyhow, now the jit.dx.grab is not working (I am using a blackmagic decklink duo). When I open the jit.dx.grab help-patcher, Max crashes immediatly.
I uninstalled the blackmagic driver. Then I can open the jit.dx.grab patcher.
Reinstalling the blackmagic card makes Max crash again. (Tried differend versions of Blackmagic Software).
I would really like to get a stable running Max+Windows Version.
So what do you recommend is the best setup?
Win7, Win8 or Win10? + Max32bit or Max64bit?
Can there be any conflicts if the Computer has several boot-drives? (I would like to have a separed Bootdrive with Windows and Max installed, so I can use it on different computers if needed, and to not mess with the other installments).
Thanks. Really appreciate it!
