Using a FM synth to modulate a voice.

I have a working FM synth and I want it to connect to the audio input so my voice will come out like a vocoder. My professor and I tried send and receiving with a send audio and send MIDI (working backwards) device, but I have issues with getting both midi signals and audio signals to interact with the synth.

What you're describing sounds more like cross-synthesis than vocoding.

Type cross-dog into the search window and follow the results....

I particularly want to make vocals that have FM synth sounds rather than FM synths with vocal sounds. From what I read, cross-synthesis is for imprinting vocal like sounds into a Synth. I am mostly making this device for singing.

Then type "vocoder" into the search window....

They have nothing to do with my issue. I want to get an audio input into the equation, not a recorded sample. The main problem is that I have to get a Midi Device to interact with an Audio Device. Send and Receive don't work across devices of different kinds.

are you in max for live? i don't have problems sending stuff from devices of different kind.

If your on L10/Max8, you can get your audio input straight into the device with the new routing possibilities. It doesn't matter if your device is a midi device ;-)
