Using external convolution such as ConvologyXT with Max 7
Hello,
I am using Max version 7.3. I would like to use IR for reverb, using external plugins like Convology XT, which are used as vst~ objects in Max 7.
I know it's much easier to do this with new versions of Max and especially Max-for-live, but at the moment, I can't do it due to the limitations of my computer (I'm using MacOs 10.12.6 Sierra).
I have downloaded this plugin from Impulse Record (the free Factory plugin). The object is recognized by Max, but it doesn't work: the usual "open" message on vst objects doesn't open it (plus double-clicking the object doesn't open its window either). The sound passes through the object without being processed.
What do I need to do to make this plugin work in this Max environment?
Thank you very much in advance!

post relevnt infos about your max and plugin.
32 or 64 bit ?
and any error messages from max console.
you could try to use plug message to load the plugin instead of
writting it's name into vst object.
what means "object is recognised by max" ?
Thank you very much for your response, and sorry for the very basic questions.
How can I check if my version of Max is 32 or 64 bit?
About the plugin: I also don't know how I can access this information.
After downloading and installing the plugin on your computer, it appears in the window that has MaxMsp to access to the plugins (on the window's left: plug-ins -> VST plugin). But it does not appear as an icon on the hard drive.
In the MaxMsp patch window, when clicking a "plug" message directed to a vst~ object, a window opens for looking for the plugin in the computer, but it cannot be found on the computer's hard disc
When choosing the plugin in the Max plugins window, the following message appears in the Max console:
"ConvologyXT.vst: no format VST exists" (this message also appears any time the object is duplicate into the max window)
The object looks "normal" (not orange color) but it do not reacts to the messages I send to it.
Its behavior is that sound passes through, but no sound is processed.
Finally, when clicking on the messages (like "open", as is normal with vst objects), nothing happens (and there are no messages in Max Console).
it is clear that your max version can not use that plugin,
for whatver reason.
this:
"ConvologyXT.vst: no format VST exists"
means plugin is not comptibe with your vst object.
audio plugs get installed in main library

you can get info about it or navigate using plug message to it.
to see your max 32/64 bit status, get info in about max
or in finder, where you can see or set the mode.

maybe update your max to 7.3.6 ?
Thank you very much for your reply. I was convinced that my operating system will not work with Max 8 bt I was wrong, it works very well. Thus the problem is fixed as, as you said, it was a question of a too older version of Max.
Also, it is clear that every objet and plug-in works on 64 bit status.
Thank you very much!
