Webcam works with other Apps, doesn't work properly in Max
Hey All,
I have a Logitech C920 webcam and it's behaving strangely with Max but seems fine with other applications. Using Max 8.08 currently. From other posts, I believe people have used this camera with Max.
Tests on Mac / OSX:
Camera connects but is pixellated in both Jitter Tester and jit.grab. When attaching a jit.matrixinfo, it says the matrix dim is 1920X1080, however, it looks more like 240p. When I try the camera in TouchDesigner or Photobooth the image is fine, so that I think rules out the faulty camera hardware.
Tests on PC / Windows:
I'm a Mac user but might be using a PC for the final delivery of a project if my beloved Macbook Pro can't cut it performance wise, so forgive me if there's something obvious in WindowsLand I'm overlooking ;)
Camera works with the Windows Camera App, as well as TouchDesigner. Based on this would just use TD, but I am too green with that software. Max 8 sees the webcam in its devices but I just get a black frame. No errors are present and I've tried it on two Windows Machines with the same issue.
I have tried the following:
- Installing / Reinstalling DirectX
- Updating Webcam Driver
- Installing and Uninstalling Drivers
- Deleting Max preferences as according to this forum post, although it is a bit different for Max 8 so I hope I got them all: ( https://cycling74.com/forums/jit-grab-not-working )
- Tried opening it in Max 7
- Tested on a totally different PC with Max. Same issue, works in other apps not Max
Any suggestions?
with jit.grab on max 7 and 8, you must enable adapt and adjust the format attribute to change the output size. the jit.grab help file has been updated in Max 8 to demonstrate how to do this.
on Windows I have no problem using this camera. which vdevice driver are you using, and can you try different ones? post your patch and Max support info if you still are having problems.
Hey Rob,
Thanks so much I think that fixed it! Apologies, I often manually set the dims and never had to necessarily use @adapt 1 in the past to get it working on OSX, and then set the resolution via "format."
Also, on Windows, when I set @adapt 1, it set the format to -1 by default, so changing it to "1" in the attribute allowed the other resolution options to come out of the "Format" dumpout option.
Hope this helps others with similar hiccups :)
