When I want to upload an effect to mod duo and press the export code button, I just get a prompt to select the folder instead of the expected behavior of progress and completion on the watch window. From what I’ve seen in the video tutorial Gen should be finding the mod duo automatically and just pushing the code to mod duo. Does anybody know anything about this?

I would like to share a project I am trying to bring to life which might be of interest for some of you. 

It’s a plug-and-play sensing platform for creative and audiovisual applications, with MIDI, OSC, wireless capabilities and a convenient web interface. 

So it should be a good fit with max ! You can turn movement, touch, distance, buttons or other sensors into wireless controllers quickly and reliably. 

After using arduino for years to tinker around with sensors, but encountering so many limitations and struggles, I decided to develop and share a much easier, convenient and robust solution for all. 

The project will be open source, and is currently about to launch. There will be a pre-order campaign soon on Crowd Supply (a funding platform for open source electronics). If you are interested, check out the pre-launch page and follow the project updates !

I've bought a Xbos wireless controller as it was said to work wired too - which is sadly not true. Bluetooth during gigs is not an option, let's not derail this thread :)

I bought it because I'm looking for a high resolution double-joystick that works with HI. The old macally I have has large dead zone and not really great resolution...

any experienced user here having a pointer to help?

Sorry, unfortunately, with newer versions of Mac OS and Apple Silicon, I haven't found any other way to use the XBox controllers wired.

My current favorite wired controller on Mac is the PS 5 Dualsense controller. The joysticks and triggers are definitely not as high resolution as the xbox controllers (8bit instead of 16bit), but you might be able to low pass filter the data stream to get higher interpolated values as you move them which might be enough for your needs.

And unlike the xbox controllers the dualsense also has gyro, accelerometers, and a multitouch pad for additional gestural control, which can be useful.

Thanks for the quick reply! The Macally has 8 bit, and in this case (even with lag that I modulate) it is still too jittery (hommage intended :) ) - those neural net mapping can be subtle beasts...

I wonder if there is a gaming site that could compare wired usb dual joystick resolution - one would think that the gaming world must be as geek as us if not more with their pro gamers and such... although maybe 8-bit is enough for them. Audio has always been very discreminatory...

I just got my hand on an Icon Platform M+ controller. Since it works really well for me in DAWs like Reaper and Live, it would be great to be able to integrate it into my Max workflow, too.

Searching the net didn't turn up the finished abstractions I had dared to hope for.

But, before setting out to building this myself and not really believing that nobody ever tried to use this controller with Max (not just by MIDI mapping in the patch), I wanted to ask, if someone out there has started or even finished this project and would be willing to share his or her insights.

the mackie hui and mackie control protocols are simple, but as far as i know you would need to have a max external specific for the usb driver of the icon in order to "get in touch".

anyone knows more?



I'm interested in this too. Just got one for a project and while I'm sure using it as a controller will be easy, I'm imagining two-way control with the faders will be less so. I'll be doing my own investigations and will share anything I can find, but if anyone else has already done this work, please let us know!

Wow! Nice work! I already just now worked out all I needed (in case anyone else is paying attention), that it's simply a matter of using bendin and bendout on channels 1-9 to communicate both ways with the faders (and this can be changed to CCs if preferred in the software), but this complete implementation will I'm sure come in handy. I'm bringing mocap data into max from a neuron mocap system. Their software broadcasts bvh data via UDP on port 7002. If I use [udpreceive] I get the error 'OSC Bad message name string.' As far as I know, bvh is nothing close to OSC formatting. I also tried udpreceive with the CNMAT flag, that shows up as full packets, but I believe that's just placing a wrapper around my incoming bvh. Is there a good way to view this data in max?

you may want to check [sadam.udpReceiver] from the Sadam Library (available in package manager), that should be able to receive raw UDP messages.

Ah! I forgot about  sadam! I will give that a try.

Old post, but I'm trying the same thing here, I'm able to get the raw BVH in max with sadam.udpReceiver but can't figure out how to map it to jit.gl.model... Anyone succeeded? 

I reverse-engineered this a while back. The BVH stream describes the joint rotations of the skeletal model, arranged in a hierarchical tree structure starting from the hips. The format assumes a header file that contains the lengths of the bones of the skeleton. The stream describes the Euler angles of the individual joints. Each frame comprises something like a list of 182 values.

The first two values of the stream are the header values [0, char00] followed by the hips' [xPosition, yPosition, zPosition, xRotation, yRotation, zRotation]. From there, the stream is parsed as x,y,z rotation triples in the following order:
right upper leg, right leg, right foot,
left upper leg, left leg, left foot,
spine, spine1, spine2, spine3, neck, head,
right shoulder, right arm, right forearm, right hand, {right hand fingers (19x3=57 values)},
left shoulder, left arm, left forearm, left hand, {left hand fingers (19x3=57 values)}
...followed by || to end the stream. 

Confused? Me too, so I made a patch that tries to organize the values in the shape of a skeleton that I call "Max Man". Good luck, Jeremy

For those who are working with PTZ-cams this might be interesting. I made a patch to control PTZ-cams with a Spacemouse Compact via Sony Visca. 

I use it in combination with a Streamdeck and Companion software. Pan, Tilt, Zoom and Focus control are on the Spacemouse. Things like gain and iris are controlled on the Streamdeck. This patch also contains readout of the gain and iris-values to be displayed on the Streamdeck.

I have a SpaceNavigator, and although I've never looked into MAX, I believe I managed to change the identity of the device from SpaceMouse Compact to SpaceNavigator. However, I'm stuck with getting it to work in Companion.

I'm controlling PTZoptics cameras using the Visca PTZoptics connection inside Companion, and although I'm able to connect to the camera and control it through the Streamdeck and Emulator , I'm not sure how to make the SpaceNavigator and Streamdeck communicate.

BTW, I have also enabled OSC inside the 'Remote Control Service' in Companion and changed the listen port to 7401. However, I must be missing something.

I've been having problems recently with a patch that I wrote for a Wacom drawing tablet that uses the [hi] object. I understand that there's a fine balance here between the way Max works, the driver/firmware for the drawing tablet, and the OS itself, but I was wondering if anyone could suggest any tips for debugging/fixing this before I resorted to some drastic and/or tedious solution.
