since the latest update to Max I am experiencing some errors in complex blocks of code where I am not at all pointed to its origin, let alone what can be done about it.

I can extract from this that somewhere an 

 with specific name is expected but instead a 

 under that name is received. Now, this error never came before and I am literally clueless as to where the problem hails from. The code thereafter does not do what it is supposed to so my program is no longer working.

this may well be the wrong place to ask about this but does anyone know why certain MGraphics functionality has simply been 'changed' ?

After a long spell of settup a lot of v8ui code to support neat SVG-rendering many of them now appear scaled, compressed, deformed — all because

Is this going to be fixed again or am I to expect such changes with any odd update now? Very hard to predict what's going to happen next I am now having to revisit all of my code to scale all vector graphics correctly — in all of my projects.  Unless this will be fixed again. Will it ?

 I tried to open a database within javascript in a m4l device. I always get the error message 

v8: none: ReferenceError: SQLite is not defined, line 28".

Seeking up and down the internet, I can't find any mentions SQLite is not supported in m4l devices. Also I don't find any references, I need to use a require statement upfront.

Did someone make it work or has an indication it is not supported or broken?

 Sending large volumes of data from Max to [node.script] over time (even with no processing in Node) appears to cause unbounded growth in Max’s memory usage.

Hi, I've noticed some strange behavior with Node for Max. It seems that the more data is sent from Max to Node, the more memory gets allocated and this increase appears to be unbounded over time.

This becomes problematic in long-running contexts for example, using Node to relay DMX data to hardware continuously over a long period. The memory usage just keeps growing.

I’ve tried to isolate the issue with a patch that sends a bunch of data to a minimal Node script that does nothing except receive messages from Max.

Is this behavior due to how Max handles data and memory under the hood, or is it a problem with the implementation of the Node for Max API?

Hi all, I'm working on a project involving Node for Max and struggling to get a basic non-trivial patch running. 

Correct me if I'm wrong, but even with a custom @node_bin_path Node binary specified it seems like the node.script node process manager object in Max is hardcoded to import user scripts using the outdated CommonJS `require('xyz')` syntax.

The README states that Node v16.6.0 is used internally. In Node.js v12.17.0 and above it's possible to use dynamic imports. A compromise could be:

These days, a number of package dependencies are being published in ESM-only formats. The broader implication is that it's not always feasible to convert an entire script to CommonJS. A modern Node project often comes with additional complexity, especially if there's Typescript transpilation or bundling involved. Often there are packages involved with add-on Node-API binaries (`.node`) that cannot be bundled and need to be marked as runtime externals (in my current case, one that's adding WebRTC support for Node). 

Is there a currently preferred workaround or consideration for this? It seems like I would have to resort to some kind of a Max for Node proxy to exchange messages with a locally running, completely separate node process.

Hello! I think this is my first forum topic, even though I've been using Max for years now :)

I'm finally trying to learn to make some visuals and interactive UI in Max and navigating the Jitter side. With the new v8 objects, I felt like it was a perfect timing to do so!

I was following the jit.ui + javascript recent tutorials by Federico on Youtube for developing a 3D game (excellent, by the way!).

Specifically, I have just reached Part 3 (linked below)

All was going great until I started experiencing severe crashes, specially when it came to part 3. 

In the previous parts, Max did crash once (in a way that I'm used to see in other personal projects, not a big deal) . But specially when I started including the jit.ui objects (through JavaScript, so actually importing and using the 

 functions directly), I've started experiencing hard crashes. My GPU would just stop and trigger a hard reset, sometimes showing the famous 'blue screen' as it did so.

I tried to comment out each element of each component I had included while following the tutorial and it seems that the

My machine is not super high-spec, and it is integrated graphics, but I wouldn't expect a few UI buttons to overload it. I have played many 3D games with this machine (Talos Principle 2, for example), not really at full resolution, but low to mid-range performance.

Maybe it is something specific with my hardware? It is an AMD system. specs below:

Before Max 9, one could define one's own objectfiles and substitutions for custom

Since Max 9 the objects are still created correctly with these lines of text, however, helpfiles and reference pages are no longer accessible and one always ends up at the general jsui/v8ui helpfile.

With the example provided in the above mentioned documentation, it's all hunky dory and everything works as expected, including the mentioned 'transform'-command from the object's dropdown-menu. None of this works anymore, whether using the deprecated (?)
