I can't seem to use mc.jit.movie ~. I have a video file with an encapsulated LRLsRs. mc.jit.movie ~ only comes out of stereo. mc.jit.movie ~ is not documented. I have an arguments: mc.jit.movie ~ 4 60000 1 @adapt 1 @autostart 0 @engine viddll.

I would like to get control of reflectivity amount of 

If I connect a jit.gl.cubemap to the environment inlet of the 

.material will  fully reflect the environment. Great!

Since it doesn't seem possible to directly control the reflectivity inside the 

.material object (ok to tune diffuse or specular, but nothing regarding reflectivity…),  I tried to modulate the texture coming out the jit.gl.cubemap  with a divider inside a jit.gl.pix object: it doesn't work. Texture is made black.

And connecting a simple jit.gl.texture to the output of the the jit.gl.cubemap gives a strange result too: no more environment map, but a checkerboard…

Is that a bug? How to get control over the environment reflectivity of a 3D objects?

I have a sphere that is deformed by a procedural texture and then sent to a mesh.

If I activate the attributes lightning_enable 1 and/or cull_face 1 in the mesh, my shape disappears when I rotate on the x or z axis.

With these 2 attributes deactivated, I can rotate without any problem.

I want to be able to rotate with these attributes enabled without my shape disappearing.

This is the last task I get in crash reports (EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)). The funny thing is that the crash can be triggered with various actions, which are at first glance completely unrelated to each other, and don't always provoke a crash, but every time it does, the last task is alway

. Sometimes, by looking at the previous tasks, it seems related to loading equirectangular maps into jit.gl.environment, sometimes to some jit.gl.slab, sometimes it's harder to say.

It comes from a gigantic patch with dozens of subpatchers and many interdependencies, so this + the irregularities of the crashes makes them very difficult to troubleshoot. The only constant is this task 0 

I struggle to find an actual culprit, so I would be grateful for any hint!

I'm working on a video player that will heavily rely MAX's audio looping capabilities. I'm using the hap codec and I'm very happy with the quality of the loops with jit.movie~ compared to jit.movie, movies with audio don't loop well in the latter with a 200ms pause every time it loops.

But I'm encountering an abnormality when playing in reverse and more specifically with a negative rate and a loop argument set to 1, loop 2 works fine.

The playback exits the loop points range, with some erratic jumps and a frozen image.

It totally goes away if audio is switched off.

I'm on a mac with OSX10.14 with max 8.1.6, some colleagues tried it on windows and it seems to produce similar results. 

I'm attaching a demonstration patcher that is loading blading.mov from the media library (not in hap) but you can read any short movie with audio, the behaviour does slightly change depending on the audio and video codecs used.

I come here first before trying to implement my own ugly looping system by monitoring time_ms and using the jump_true message.

Yeah there is clearly some undesirable behavior here, and I will ticket this for further investigation and improvements. 

For now, your best option is probably disabling looping, and managing it yourself. This will allow you to highly customize to your needs, and order rate and seek messages for optimal behavior.

If you run into issues with that, I'm happy to offer suggestions.

One suggestion to make, as always with dynamic playback in Jitter, movie codec is important. Hap or prores are recommended over temporal-codecs like h264.

it has been a very long time that I used Max. (Jitter). Just downloaded the new version on a Win10 PC. I want to get a UHD video input, using a Blackmagic Decklink 8k Pro Card. 

Capture Settings should be 3840x2160 25p. Works fine on the Decklink MediaCapture Software.

Trying to capture in Max with Jit.grab -> Blackmagic (using the help patcher) Max crashes immediatly.

Why is that, is there something new I am not seeing?

In avf mode, the jit.record object doesn't accept many frames in rapid succession. After about 4 frames triggered by an uzi, it posts the message 'writer input not ready for media data'. In quicktime mode all's fine.

this is not so much a bug, as it is a limitation of the AVF engine. lots of things like this, that used to work with quicktime, don't work with avf due to the asynchronous nature of so much of the library. 

i've registered a feature request to output a notification from jit.record when it's ready to accept media data, which could be used to trigger the next frame.

in the meantime, some sort of delay is your only option. i did it like this (adjust the delay time for your setup and processing needs):


Yes, that feature would be really handy. Until then, the delay method will do.

One thing I've noticed is that the choice of codec has some influence over the occurrence of this 'writer input not ready for media data' error. If I use h264, the Max console rains full of errors. If I use prores4444 I only have a very occasional 'writer input not ready for media data', and they do not occur at all with prores422 on my MBP running 10.10.3. Which is a perfect codec for the experimental nonsense I output from jitter.


fyi I get the same error under avf when trying to export movs from jit.matrixset
