So basically this patch should receive the parent track's name and remove it's first letter. As the title says, this event should happen right between someone pressing "del" on live (or any form of deletion command) and the device actually being deleted. 

I can't for the life of my wrap my head around editing or changing the priority queue.

I have a really odd issue that I have been trying to debug for a week now and I am getting nowhere with it - so maybe someone here has some ideas that might help.

I have an existing M4L plugin that is released and working fine in Live 10, 11 and 12.

I've made some updates to it and Livee now it crashes when a project containing the plugin is loaded into Live 10.1.43 - it does not crash Live 11 or 12.

I've created two new Live 10 projects that only contain the original plugin. One I save with the default plugin settings. The other I save with a change to one live.numbox item.

If I then switch the plugin file to the new version, restart Live 10, and load the project with the default plugin settings it works fine. But if I try and load the project that has the one change saved it crashes every time.

I have now deleted everything else from inside the new version of the plugin apart from the single live.numbox item and the crash still happens - it seems to simply be the act of Live setting the value of the live.numbox that is crashing it. The only thing that might be slightly out of the ordinary is that the live.numbox is in a bpatcher maxpat which is itself contained in another maxpat because this code is reused in a number of other plugins - but these nexted bpatchers have been working fine in previous versions.

I've also found one other UI item, a live.menu, that has the same effect. But other live.menu items in the maxpat work fine and don't cause a crash. Same thing happens with this - if a test project is saved with the original default settings then it works fine, but if the selection of the menu is changed then it crashes when loaded.

I have tried this on Mac and Windows - same crash on both - so I don't think it can be some local config issue. Besides that this has all be working fine for previous releases.

Anyone got any ideas how I can work out what is going on here?

is there a way to embed an image as background of my M4L device, so that it will be displayed 

without the source file being located at the target device

I'm trying to implement a "beat shuffler" that can permute the beats within a given measure. That might mean that beat 3 is re-arranged to happen on beat 1, such that audio "from the future" plays "in the present".

Given the shuffling happens within measures, I can implement this by just aligning everything to the /next/ measure, delaying all incoming beats by some positive amount of time and causing the entire device to have a single measure latency. But I imagine -- because devices like limiters use a lookahead -- that there should be a way to report the 1 measure latency and properly align the output of my device (for audio that is already recorded, of course, because time travel is not possible!).

So I'm trying to start by creating a basic Max4Live device that simply negative-delays the audio input, and I've had no luck. I found other forums posts about the device's reported latency. I tried both manually entering a large number in the Defined Latency field of the patcher inspector, and also doing 

loadbang -> latency 10000 -> live.thisdevice

 for a latency of 10000 samples. These don't seem to work. It seems like at one point I did get some amount of negative latency to occur because I bounced an audio track and it seemed to shift back, but I don't remember what series of actions I took to do this.

There has to be a simple way to do this, right? Can anyone help?

I have a Max For Live patch that includes multiple instances of a subpatch (.maxpat).

The subpatch has an inlet connected to a live.numbox with parameter visiblity of "stored only".

My problem is that whenever I reload the Live session the subpatch live.numbox values are reset to 0 or seem to have random values.

What am I not understanding here?  Thanks!

I can get all the device of a track, and get then the id of each parameters.

I can then with "can_have_chains" know wich device is a rack and retrieve the devices nested inside it.

But how can I do the same with rack in rack.., when I don't know the depth of the rack/rack/rack hierarchy ?

.At the end I just try to have a list with all parameters of a track.

The menu "paste from/max for live/Live api chooser/browse device parameter" do the trick easily, but I don't know JS at all and I don't manage to bang this snippet in a way it will output the whole list of track's parameters...

You probably know this but you can use [uzi] set to an arbitrary big number, and break its iterations using the 'break' message.

Yes I know the trick, maybe I was not clear enough with what bothers me.

I know how to retrieve the parameters list of a device.
What I don't manage to achieve correctly, is to, with a track, to retrieve the whole list of all parameters id of this whole track, with parameters of devices that are nested in a rack, even those nested in a rack in a rack in a rack etc..

How to perform a such request to API when you don't know the depth hierarchy of chains?
I am looking for a patch idea, where you ask for each device of a track its "can_have_chains" property to know if it's a rack, and then re-ask for this id, the list of chains, and so on with all those chains, etc etc.

I can see the logical but I don't manage to build this loop that will go  through all the depth of racks and have to whole list of parameters of the track at the end (including Rack mixer parameters, chain mixer parameters etc..)

I'm just starting out with M4L, so please excuse if this is a silly problem. 

I want to control playback in Ableton via a M4L device and have this in turn be controlled with my Midi controller. So, to give an example, I press a C1 on the controller which I mapped to a "play" button on the M4L device which in turn tells Ableton to, in this example, "start playback".
