I’m currently working on controlling mini DC vibration motors (low voltage) with Arduino, using CMD SimpleMessageSystem to communicate from Max/MSP. This setup was working before, but suddenly the motors stopped responding.

I’m an artist using Arduino mainly for interactive works, so while I’ve tested the basics, I may be missing something in the software/firmware side.

Has anyone experienced issues with SimpleMessageSystem + Max patches (Arduino2Max/CMD module) where the Max terminal only shows the port number but no responses? Any guidance on whether that’s normal, or what I should check next, would be greatly appreciated.

 I'm a beginner, but for a university exam I'd like to create a patch that can capture a live scream from a person and convert it into data that can be sent to TouchDesigner. Obviously, I'd like the sound to be cleaned up so that only the scream is captured and not other sounds like voices or footsteps. I've been going crazy for days because I've watched tutorial after tutorial, but they all use audio and not an ezadc (microphone). So far, I've only managed to connect the ezadc with meter and number, but I don't know how to proceed. My instructor recommended zmap, but I have no idea how to implement a patch like this.

Hi! I was working with one device to split audio clips into 1/16 and distribute parts across 4 tracks, for this I used clip duplication, moving start and end markers and so on... In general, I encountered many problems, from Ableton Live crashes to incorrect operation of the device on some machines. 

Recently I was visited by a thought - What if I make a GUI application (say in Python) that would program a ready-made .ALS file with 4 audio tracks and distribute audio clips across them?! 

Maybe someone can give me a hint on how to create a compatible .ALS file? 

I've already tried a bunch of things using ChatGPT, GROK and other neural networks, but it always gives me incompatible files with various errors...

I’m just starting out with building Max for Live devices and I’d like to create a small tool that generates chords (a kind of Chord Generator).

My idea is: • A MIDI device that takes a single note as input. • It outputs several notes to form a chord (for example triads, sevenths, or custom chords). • I’d like to choose the intervals via knobs or menus (e.g. +3, +7, +10, etc.). • Optional: a button to transpose the whole chord, and maybe even a random mode for variation.

Since I’m a beginner, I’m not sure about a few things: 1. What’s the best way to add notes (using noteout, makenote, or something else)? 2. How to design a simple UI to select intervals. 3. Should I use the built-in Ableton Chord device as a starting point, or build everything from scratch?

If anyone could explain the basics, share a minimal example, or point me to some beginner-friendly resources, that would be super helpful.

So I'm not actually skilled in Max, but I'm just asking this question because I want to know whether or not it's within the realm of possibility, such that I could teach myself Max enough to build it:

I have an APC40 MkII and an Ableton Push 3, and in an ideal world their Session boxes would be linked, such that I could use the arrow buttons on either device to move them back and forth

. This would allow me to use the two controllers as one "super-controller" - the APC40 recording and launching clips and controller faders and sends, while the Push acts as my main keyboard and device controller. That's all I really want.

Isotonik has a device that used to do this

, but ever since Live 12 came out it has stopped working. I talked to Darren Cowley personally about this over email (and I know he's a member of this forum), and he simply insisted to me that it was "impossible" to make it work again. My guess is that this is because Push 3 is running a different kind of script that is no longer visible in Live preferences, so it's impossible to get it to tell you where the session box is (much less have it be controlled externally). Or something.

is there absolutely no other way of making this work now

, whether in Max or Python or something else? I don't need a super-complicated solution; ideally I'd just have a little Max audio effect that can sit on my master channel (alongside my numerous other utility devices), which is preset to have the APC and Push mirror each other. That's it.

I'm nearing the end of Electronic Music & Sound Design Volume 2 by Cipriani & Giri, and I am transferring their adaptive gate algorithm into a Max4Live device. I need to route audio from another Ableton audio track to trigger a gate for the main audio track upon which the device is on, where the average~d envelope for the triggering audio is used to dictate a gate for the main audio, but I'm not sure how to do the rerouting itself. I assumed that "plugin~ 1 2" would work, with channel 1 being the main audio and channel 2 being the rerouted audio (selecting "Audio To [main audio track]" on the triggering audio track in Ableton), but perhaps I misunderstood the plugin~ object. Any advice is appreciated! :)

I have issues using Shift-Enter to remove points from a function box. On a clean boot of the Mac (mini with M4) and Max 9, it works. Perhaps until I run the patch (?).

Then, it doesn't. At all. Rebooting Max does not fix this. Rebooting everything does.

Clicking (even with shift) creates new points. I can't get rid of any. If I try to select/delete, the entire function box disappears. 

Is this a known issue with Max key binding? It is frustrating.

Update: So, this only works when the patcher is locked?
