I’m a new owner of a Bela Gem Multi, my aim is to use it for a sound installation requiring multichannel audio played on headphones. For this, I wanted to use RNBO and then export the C++ code to run it on Bela. My actual project is to have a realtime selection of a lot of audio files (more than 500). There are predominantly under 30 seconds and goes to around 5 minutes for the longer ones. Right now, it does not work with this number of files when I build the exported C++ code with the Bela IDE. But it does work when I use less audio files (around 40, WAVE 48-24).

In RNBO, I use a very simple patch (screenshot below), to select the files read by a 

 objects, they seem to be recognized in the console of the Bela IDE. It seems it’s the working method right now in RNBO to use buffers, even though it’s really painful to name individual files like this.

I had not anticipated this issue and following an answer from the Bela forum, I understand that I need to load a few samples in RAM to play them and load the rest from disk when it's needed. Here I'm going over what the RAM is capable with this size of audio files and reading only from RAM.

Is it possible in RNBO to specify this kind of operation (i.e. allocation between RAM and disk) ?

I want to send four channels of audio from RNBO on the Raspberry Pi to an M-Audio Fast Track Pro audio interface. This audio device is in fact seen as two audio devices in one, each with two channels. ALSA / "aplay -l" lists them as two separate devices. RNBO seems to only be able to output to one of these devices. With etc/asound.conf we have been able to create a multi-device that can be used with jackd, and tested with Pure Data (Pd) and it plays four channels correctly. How do I set this up with RNBO?

I’m trying to create a standalone RNBO program that uses the moon phase as a parameter to control various elements inside my patch.

I set up a Node.js script on a Raspberry Pi that outputs a value (Illum parameter) based on the moon phase.

On my computer, the RNBO program reads this parameter without any issues. However, when I run the same setup on the Raspberry Pi, RNBO does not seem to receive or respond to the parameter at all.

I’m not sure where the problem is coming from. 

Has anyone experienced something similar or knows what I might be missing?

I use RNBO’s rnboscript almost every day—it’s a fantastic tool for sample-level sound synthesis and processing.

Coding with codebox and codebox~ in RNBO, however, becomes very inconvenient as the code gets longer. It would be great to have an object like [js] or [v8] that allows the use of an external editor.

The Rpi 4B I am using does not show in the target export window. I manually added the address of the pi, but it still shows it as not connected. Wireless connection is otherwise working on the pi.

Other things I've tried to troubleshoot this issue:

Verify connection: I verified everything is correct in setup from the tutorial. Username is pi, hostname is unchanged, updated through terminal. I can SSH into the pi from my laptop and send and receive files, etc. 

Updates and installing dependencies:  I suspect it might have something to do with the way the raspberry is configured. I ran into an error for "sudo apt-get install jack_transport_link rnbo-runner-panel," which gives the error:

I have used "sudo apt-get install" as well as "sudo apt update | sudo apt upgrade" and rebooted the pi. I'm at a loss. If anyone can tell me why the pi will not show up on the target window, that would be amazing. I have puzzled over this for several days.

I’m a software engineer who is new to Max and audio, but I’m looking for a way to create custom interior and exterior driving sound for a couple of EVs I have. I’ll be using raspberry pi and my custom made hardware that currently gets literally any data from the electric motor in my the car (rpms, speed, throttle, power in kw, recuperation and a dozen of other metrics). I haven’t measured data delay and latency, but I believe I can pull data pretty fast if needed.

I’ve heard that Shepard tone and granular synthesis should be used to achieve this, but after asking my friend audio engineer to make a PoC in RNBO, I wonder if instruments in RNBO can pull of sounds like in major EV producers (Hyundai, Mercedes, GM, Porsche). I love how taycan and cayenne sound when you drive these seemingly “boring” EVs, but so far we were not able to pull off a good sounding rnbo patch with recorded CAN data from real car - basic versions sounded ok but very synthetic, more complex ones with Shepard, poly, gran synth sound bad so far, very far from what I’d like to achieve. It’s worth noting that my friend has experience with max but he is new to RNBO, after our trials and errors he also wonders if it’s possible to achieve within RNBO.

Does anyone know if it’s feasible to do it or should I just give up because of some restrictions RNBO has? Maybe someone saw people or companies using RNBO for the same purpose?
