Hi all. I would like to have n amount of integers that all add up to a specific value and if any one of the n integers get changed, then that difference gets reflected, whether it's addition or subtraction in any one of the other integers. Preferably randomly. But I never want any number to dip below 1.

Example: I have 4 integer boxes and the specific value to be added up to is 16. The boxes are at 4 4 4 4. If I change the first one to 6, I'd like the change to be reflected and the boxes turn into 6 2 4 4. Let's say I change the fourth integer to 10. I'd like the change to reflected to something like 1 1 4 10. Thank you!

so i'm trying to find the cleanest solution to this issue:

Let's say I have a steady pulse of a short sine wave sound going at 120bpm, every now and then, randomly, I want the sine wave to be twice as long, meaning, it taking up 2 pulses in the sequence, without then retriggring it while it's playing.

So far I've used gate to accomplish this: every time the long impulse appears, the gate closes, so it won't pass through another trigger while it's playing.

I feel like there has to be a better option than this. This gets especially more complicated if I have e.g. 3 different sustain values for the sine wave, meaning e.g. first one taking up 1 pulse, second one 2 and the third one 3 of them.

Hello, I'm trying to design a tool for developing and testing a response curve for an effect. I would like a simple little interface that allows a tester to manipulate two parameters to intuitively change the curve so that we can 'dial in' the curve to players' preferences in real time. I want one slider to control the 'curviness' of the curve (i.e. how much it deviates from a straight 1-to-1 response) and another to allow you to offset the center value of the curve output, so that a MIDI note of 64 might output a 44 or an 84, independent of the 'curviness'. The reason for this is that the effect is much less noticeable in the outer registers, and very sensitive within a narrow range that often is somewhere near the center, but usually not exactly at the center of the MIDI range. This is a physical limitation of the hardware it uses and how it calibrates.

, a project we've been building at Structure Void over the past few weeks: an open-source multi-host integration of Ableton Link Audio. 

The Max side gives you two MSP externals (void.linkaudio.send~ and void.linkaudio.receive~) packaged as a complete Max package with help patchers, refpages, and a vignette tooltip.

A note on context: I'm guessing Cycling '74 will release their own Link Audio Max package alongside Live 12.4 (May 5, 2026). We wanted to do some R&D of our own on this, exploring how the API behaves across very different hosts, what an open-source multi-host pattern looks like in practice, and how the timing primitives feel when exposed at audio rate vs as messages. The two efforts will coexist nicely, I think.

The Max externals share a single C++ core (`LinkAudioManager`, ring buffer, threading model) that's also deployed across:

 vanilla 0.56-2+ / first public Pd implementation of Link Audio, to our knowledge

 / LinkAudioSend + LinkAudioReceive CHOPs

 / Send / Receive modules in the Structure Void browser category

 / ofxAbletonLinkAudio addon in its own repo

So a Max patch can subscribe to a stem published by a Pd patch on another laptop, all in tempo with VCV running on a third machine. Single-machine inter-app routing also works (replaces BlackHole / Loopback / VB-Cable).

Both objects expose Link timing as audio-rate signal outlets:

Plus R/W attributes for tempo and transport that propagate to all peers on the LAN. Change BPM in Max, every Link peer follows.

The signal-rate choice for outlets is deliberate: it lets you reset a phasor on phase wrap, scrub a sample by beat position, or modulate anything at audio rate from transport state — sub-block precision messages can't give you. Both objects also accept tempo/transport as input messages.

I am in the middle of writing a piece that require live triggering of sound. I was going to put this into QLab, but did not realise how much it is! Would anyone please be able to help me to build a patch where a midi pedal can cue audio sounds. I also want the patch to fade out the previous sound whilst the next one is coming in. I have not used Max in a while, so my brain is a little rusty!
