Hello,
I want to use WebSockets to send messages to a web page, 
today I used Node.js for the first time in Max.
I referred to this example:

which allows me to send three values to the web page. However, I'm not sure how to modify the program to send three strings instead of three numbers. I have been trying for a whole day, but whenever I send a 3-string group message from Max, the web page always displays "NaN" (Not a number). 

I am trying to modify this part :

Max.addHandler("send", (...args) => {
		console.log("send args: " + args);
		if (args.length === 3) {
			sender(args[0], args[1], args[2]);
		}

But still I couldn't find out the right way...

Can you please tell me how to modify the program to achieve this?

just on first look it seems like the parsing of the values happens on the frontend. So the code to adjust wouldn't necessarily be the Node part but the JS that runs in the browser.

It seems like in mySockets.js you can find the handle that processes incoming messages on the websocket.

After removing the math operations in mySockets.js, it works very well !

I now only have one issue left to solve, which is that I can't access port 8080 from external sources to see the webpage. I can see the webpage, but I can't see the continuously updating string values. Still working on a solution for that.

- gave all my samples unique names using a bash script (a lot of files, so didn't do that manually);
- changed that in the node.script file;
- added the path of the project to the maxmsp system path

Is possible to declare an attribute to pick a color in JSUI ? I can declare it as an array like this:

I have a [js] object that listen to 4 numbox that each represent a color (RGBA). I'm just looking for a more elegant way of doing this. Instead of sending the values separatly, I want to send a single list of 4 values in the callbackColor function. I can't figured how to do that ?

In case someone is looking for an answer, I just listen to a [swatch] object that return a list.

If you wanted the independent numboxes, just call getvalue on each of the MaxobjListener objects:

However I find that it's still useful to collect all the Jitter syntax and the more esoteric things (like "activeinput" for jit.gl.pix and jit.gl.slab) which are not immediately recollected from the documentation. 

If nothing else, I will use this post to note things I encounter and that I wish to remember.

Here are some JSUIs which accept mouse drag operations to move other objects in locked patchers.    

 Roald Baudoux collected some examples of buffer~ operations with js in this thread. 

When you arrive in js, it is sometimes complicated to identify script errors that are related to specificities of js in max. It would be helpfull for js beginners (like me) if we could collect here the things to know about these little particularities that your max logic won't help to figure out :)

For jit.gl.text , 2d or 3d has to be specified in the var attribute, and not in the object argument itself (unlike the max externals)

var mytext = new JitterObject ("jit.gl.text","context");
mytext.mode = 2d ; // or 3d

For jit.gl.light, the drawing context has to be specified in the drawto attribute (not in the object argument)

var mylight = new JitterObject ("jit.gl.light");
mylight.drawto = "mycontext";

Context set in the argument will generate console error "#N: extra arguments for message "jit_gl_light"

I guess the documentation on my site is pretty outdated, guess I made it almost 10 years ago. Is it still helpful? Did not try the node integration of max ever. So I don't know what changed lately. Are there any updates needed?

@JAN Perhaps try giving a click in the area where information is shown before using the cursor. It works for me. I'm using chrome by the way.

On the phone you can just swipe up to change the slides, and then when you reach the end you swipe left to go to next column. On the computer you can press ESC key to see the overview of all the columns ;)

One thing I can never remember is how to get the arguments typed into another object box (ie not jsarguments)..

Yep - that looks like what you'd want to do to create a new object.. What I mean is to query an existing object for its args.

I´m just trying out the javascript for Max implementation. However, I don´t seem to find anything on how to create classes. When I try to define one with the "class classname {}" Syntax, I get the following error:

js: BPMMachine.js: Javascript SyntaxError: missing ; before statement, line 6

Besides that I didn´t find any information or examples with javascript classes. Hoping for you to help me out, maybe I´m just missing something really simple?

I made a utility js file that takes in arguments from m4l. I setup two js instances with the same file, but different arguments. My problem is, the arguments seem to override eachother.

Sometimes both instances print args of instance A or both print args of instance B. I see expected behavior when I add a compile message before the js instance... but from the docs, it seems like I shouldn't need to do that?

Hi, I am fairly new to using Javascript in Max but have been wanting to get more proficient with it, particularly with the use of dictionaries and the "get_notes_extended" and "add_new_notes" functions in the Clip class for passing note data back and forth between Max and Ableton Live. To begin with this, I've been trying to figure out how to get a dictionary from the "get_notes_extended" function, construct a new dictionary, send note data to the "add_new_notes" function for it to appear in the currently accessed Clip in Ableton Live, and then send the name of the created dictionary out the js outlet. Example code is below. I've written questions as comments in the code below:

If you want to put dictionaries as items in another dictionary using JavaScript, it'd be like this:

Dict("biggerDictionary").replace(lineItem, Dict("smallerDictionary"));

If then you want to add to that smaller dictionary that you added as an item...
Dict("biggerDictionary").replace(lineItem + "::" + subLineItem, anything));


The above doesn't answer the question. I would also like to know how to format a dictionary of "notes" to be called by "add_new_notes" in javascript. Can anyone give a direct answer? 

The problem is with putting the note dictionary inside an array inside another dictionary with the "notes" key.

Everything I've tried has resulted in a formatting error. Please help!

Maybe try this?  Needing to use this "wrapper" step is annoying, but I think its the easiest way to get Max JS to parse the array/list into a Dict key called "notes".
