Absolute beginner: Why doesn't this work?
Hello! I picked up this software for a course today. There's something I can't seem to figure out: Why doesn't the "number: bang when Tab Key Pressed" work? I click the number box, which I assume puts it in "focus" and then I press tab hoping that the number will be outputted to the other number box below and to the time interval of the metronome. I'm using a Swedish keyboard if that makes any difference. The project is unlocked and I tried both in "operating while unlocked" and without. Thanks!
highlighting a number box and pressing the tab key will only send a bang out of the right outlet.
If you want to send the number to the next number object, just connect the left outlet to the inlet of the second number box and bang the first number.
There is a beginner course starting: https://cycling74.com/forums/max-workshops-online-stating-next-week
Thank you! The reason I got confused is because in the help window it said "bang - output the stored value" when in conjunction with the tab outlet would translate to "number: Output stored value when tab key pressed".
I think now I have achieved what I wanted to achieve though: A metronome that adjusts in tempo when you press tab, which can be turned on and off. It's an exercise, among others, we have as part of the course to teach us the absolute basics of the software and we could only use these 5 boxes. Thank you for the help and for the course suggestion!
oh, the "only use n objects" challenges. they are wonderful, not only for beginners.
