Audio playback not working/No sound output

Long story short, when I put in my wired earphones, the audio playback is still being output on my laptop, so I wanted to see if the output device could be switched to headphones. I went to Audio status function and there was only one option -- my built-in speakers. I just selected and deselected it, but it somehow made the audio disappear in the program. I mean, the bottom right volume bar displays audio signals, but there is no sound coming out at all. It works fine on other platforms.

I reinstalled Max but there is still no sound.Although in Audio status>Audio driver setup>speaker>configure>stereo audio channels work fine and there is sound coming out. Anybody has a clue?
