Best practices against crashing m4l when opening editor?

Hey guys,

I'm building a m4l device that reached relatively high complexity and it is always crashing when trying to open the editor from Ableton. I can make it work on Mac after deleting the cache and many reboots of the computer and practicing patience and compassion, but I cannot make it work on Windows. It is crucial to open it up trough Ableton to make the Windows compile, I cannot distribute the device before it's done. The device is full of jitter objects.

My question is: Is there any good practices that helped you find the reason of the crash?

normally you can freeze (if that's what you mean with "compile") for both platforms without changing the OS. Maybe try to "loadbang defeat" or Live audio driver set to none before opening editor? Or change jitter settings in Max preferences. Only guessing..

yes you can, but I have mac and win exclusive packages included in my device (spout and syphon) and those need to be compiled with the respective OS. Although I have to say now it doesn't work also on my mac. I cannot open the editor whatever I do.

btw what is loadbang defeat?

Presumably he's referring to holding ⌘⇧ when opening a patch, which prevents [loadbang] objects from outputting their bang.
