Broke my install!
Hi folks,
I was playing with a patcher that I was very excited about, and it involves a few sound file and a playlist object. I keep having trouble when I save it, with the patcher or project losing track of the sound files. When I consolidate the project, the opposite seems to happen - it immediately loses the sound files.
Then I read about saving a collection, which sounds perfect. Tried it....and now my install of MAX is totally broken. The only way I can open it now is with the xmf "collection" file, which is not editable and can't be saved as an editable project.
Help!!!! Getting confused and very frustrated. Was hoping to use this new app with my classes this week....now I'm just hoping to get my MAX to startup again!
-mk
using the latest version of Max, which I just reinstalled, on the latest MBP with the latest Monterey.
You probably mix a bit terms
collection - you mean collective
anyway, to make max work again,
go into your documents folder and delete all that belongs to max
except your project if you find it there.
move it somewhere out of max search path.
Also in user library/Application Support/cycling '74 folder
delete all except you license if it is stored there, I don't know how that works in monterey.
It should be in max authorisations folder.
Last thing to check is if you allowed system to store application states and
restores them on boot.
Delete that too if max is involved.
------
Untill you learn how to deal with max projects and any other automated stuff
try to work in old fashioned way,
make somewhere a folder, store all patches you need there and place also media files inside.
Don't let max do anything for you.
Work your way through max preferences, you should disable
restore windows on Launch
If you can't solve the problem, post again here with more details about that
project , where it is located etc
