Can't hear Max's audio (VU-meters are working)

Hi,

I've been having a really annoying problem for the last few days with the audio in Max/MSP : I can't hear any sound coming from the software and I can't record sound either (for instance, using a record~ and a buffer~) whether with a Cycling demo patcher, a functioning patcher of mine, or a new blank one.

My audio configuration and I/O settings are set properly, and I can monitor sound on the VU-meters, whether it's coming out of Max (the blue master VU-meter on the lower right-hand side), or coming in (using an adc~ and a meter~ for instance) . I can see the signal modulating in both cases but can't hear it nor record it into Max. The audio-tester works fine too, I can monitor my in and out signals. The oscillator and pink noise testers also show signal on the VU-meters.

I've tried to reinstall Max but it did nothing. Then I reset my Core Audio driver (using "sudo killall coreaudiod" in the Terminal) and the audio worked for a few milliseconds before stopping again ! I've also tried using the "ad-portaudio" driver (don't know what it btw is but it's there) after resetting instead of the Core Audio. Same thing : sound for a split second then nothing. Note that the audio works from the moment I start producing sound in Max before stopping.

I tested everything with the built-in inputs and outputs, my audio interface, headphones, monitors speakers but it always resulted in no audio. Every other app on my computer that uses audio works just fine.

I've been using Max/MSP for 3 years and never had an issue of this kind. Help !

My computer is a 2017 MacBook Pro Touchbar with :
- RAM : 16 Go 2133 MHz LPDDR3
- CPU : 2,6 GHz Intel Core i7 quad-core
if that can help.

Thanks in advance for your replies

Update :

Everything seems to work now, but I don't know what really happened. I tried to reset the NVRAM (as shown here https://www.maketecheasier.com/fix-sound-not-working-mac/) but I'm not sure if that's what made the thing work again. Anyway, it's now working as usual !
