convert streaming music (e.g. Tidal) from 440 hz to 432 hz
Hi,
I dont know if I can even do this with Max but a friend told me to check it out.
I only listen to hi-fi format music, which i convert on my mac from 440 hz to 432 hz via a music program Vox (an older version has pitch control not the new ones).
Recently a couple of hi-fi music streaming companies have sprang up which means I can finally use streaming music on my regular set-up. however, I have grown very found of my 432 hz music.
Question:
Is it possible to use Max in combination with a streaming program and for instance Ableton live to reroute the music out to the music in of ableton live and change the pitch and start enjoying my hi-fi music in 432 hz?
Mayble there is an easier way, or another way. I am very pragmatic about the set-up.
Hope you can help!
thanks in advance!

while i don't agree with the whole concept that 432Hz is more natural and pleasant (since most modern music was knowingly composed at 440Hz, plus how can you do karaoke when you memorize all these songs to be slighty flat!?), you can easily do this with the new [pitchshift~] object. To get audio into Max from external apps, use Cycling 74's app: Soundflower.

but but but, are you saying you pitch-shift all your music to have each time an A at 440Hz become an A at 432Hz ???? This is so weird ! Not to mention, you're bound to get slight artifacts in your music... Especially if you stream your music, because pitch shifting algorithm are less efficients in real time... those artifacts are maybe what you grew accustomed to...
... or you can slow down your music just that tiny bit... ;)
@greg Finger: I will have to accept karaoke loss, i guess :)
thanks I just saw all the comments like literally NOW, I was purchasing some songs because i assumed this forum was a dead end....it appears that i did not get any emails from the forum saying they posted my topic nor that there where any comments.ah well, Laura mvula is always good to own :)
I will start experimenting with Cycle.
Gassho!

@vichug: You don't really hear any artifacts at least not on 432hz player on iphone. But I haven't tried cycle yet...any the app in question doesn't stream the data either (on hard disk).
do you test that the music you're pitch shifting isn't already at something other than 440?
@wetterberg: generally the music that I listen to is in 440 hz. there is some music mostly classical that is higher. but I will cross that bridge if I find the view on the opposite side worth it.
soo soo weird :) but it's good that anyone can has the weirdest music hearing practice he wants and the world is just fine with it, i guess.
(but what do you mean by "i haven't tried Cycle yet" ? do you mean cycling 74's Soundflower ? in that case this app is just an audio bridge, it will allow you to route audio from one applcation to another, e.g. to stream iTunes into Max so that Max will be able to process in real time the sound from iTunes. But if you are using sound that is on your hard drive, you had better use sfplay~ and its pitchshifting abilities, check out this very basic patch :
then you would have to open each soundfile manually, maybe not recommended after all for long listening session. but the quality *should* be better. But if it's streaming, then do use the pitchshift~ object as suggested by Greg ; and route the audio from whichever sound playing application you use to inside MaxMSP ; pitchshift~ ; and listen from there)
@vichug: thank you for the patch, it would take a while for me to figure this out otherwise. It concerns a streaming set-up, I already have a app for pitchshifting hard drive musice (Vox).
And yes i am quite weird when in comes to my music.....but i feel fine about it :).
I will try your patch today :)
chau,
Lol it's not weird, it's called the placebo effect. ;-)
to each there own i guess :)
