Deauthorizing

I have three machines authorized, but one is an old Mac which I am recycling. I signed out of Max 8 on the machine before doing this, but I still ran into the "you have exceeded your authorizations" when installed Max 8 on the replacement Mac. I guess signing out has no effect. I have emailed support about it (awaiting a response), but is there still no way for the users to manage the authorizations?
A few years ago Andrew Pask stated: "We understand that users would like to have a much better idea of which machines are currently authorized, and are looking at ways to present this information. " (In this thread: https://cycling74.com/forums/why-i-need-authorize-max-every-time-i-open-it )
Has any progress been made on this?

Choose Help > User Account and Licenses.

Click on the "Sign Out" button.

You'll see a window that says:

Signing out will deauthorize this machine and you will not be able to save.
Are you sure you want to sign-out?

Clicking to do so should decrement your count on our authorization server. Let's take this offline to make sure we don't have a problem with server updates.

Those are the steps I followed. I am glad at least that it was supposed to be the right way. Unfortunately it didn't work in my case, possibly I accidentally clicked the wrong thing at the "Are you sure" stage. It is also unfortunate that I already wiped that computer so can't debug further. I will await further direction offline (thanks for the help Max Gardener!).

Okay. I did a little research and consulted with the solons. Here's the situation:

If we allowed the decrement of machine count when a user signed out of max, it would mean that we require the user to be online every time they use Max, and that's not viewed as a great idea.

Signing out of Max on your machine does not decrement the count. We can de-authorize all of your machines when you get in touch with Customer SupportS, at which point you can just re-authorize on the machines you are using up to the limit of three.

I hope this clarifies matters, and apologize for the noise.

Ah I see. Thanks for clarifying (and for fixing my particular instance)!
