Failing to save M4L device as application (trying to include JPG)
Hi there,
I built a very simple M4L device and included a JPG for the background image. Device and JPG file are in the same directory (Windows 10) and when I open the device in Ableton 11, the JPG is shown as intended - so far, so good.
Now I'd like to give this device to a friend and was hoping I could include the JPG into the device (so I can give him the device instead of a folder which includes the device AND the JPG file). But after reading some documentation, I can't find any way to do that.
If I understand the official documentation correctly, then I should use "Build collective / application", see here: https://docs.cycling74.com/max8/vignettes/collective_editor. The same approach is also used in this video: https://youtu.be/ym1o0e1zTx0?t=649 (I included the relevant timestamp in the URL).
To me, however, this option is greyed out.
The following post indicates it might be a licensing issue and that it is only possible in Max (not Max4Live), but I couldn't find any official information supporting this claim: https://cycling74.com/forums/%22build-applicationcollective%22-greyed-out.
Does anyone know whether this is a licensing issue for sure OR, even better, point me to an instruction that tells me how to do it?
Thanks guys
Daniel
All you need to do is freeze the device before saving it to make it portable. Look into this thread where i answered recently how to include a file (your jpg) into the frozen device.
Boy that was easy :D
Cheers man, works like a charme. Friend confirmed, too.
Knowing now how this feature is called ('freeze'), I was also able to locate its description in the offiical documentation: https://docs.cycling74.com/max5/vignettes/core/live_freezing.html
Thanks a lot!
