How do I make a living..lfo..?
Hi, I'm currently writing a 4ch tape music.
My audio samples are mono, so I'm currently using groove and outputting them to 4 channels.
But as you know, this is just 4 same signals going in to 4 channels so the spatial image isn't really there. it still sounds like mono.
So,
how do i make some lfo, or any modulating source that i could put on every signal to get something live, living modulating source..that modulates the delay, and slight pitch.
I want to just make some set of objects that modulates the delay, pitch in the range of some subtle value so i could slap that set of objects and forget about it.
Basically I want every sound to be like a real orchestra.
In orchestra if the violin section plays the note A, because all violins are slightly tuned different and don't play at the same time because its impossible for human we get this rich sound.
I basically want to do that for my sounds.

there is a dozen of (mostly quite simple) techniques, but i really depends on how the mix will be listened to: is the music later played in mono, stereo or quad?
um..on 4channel speaker ?

Time offset in real word does not happen in the middle of a note. Either note start or note end could differ in a "section" being a bit leading, lagging or of a different length.
and somewhat detuned to perfect pitch.
If that is what you want, inserting quad chorus or similar, will not give you wanted result
the most basic mixing options for a voice should be these:
- use all 4 speakers
- use 2 adjacent speakers
- simple panning between 2 adjacent speakers (slight, slow movements)
- sudden jump from one speaker to another speaker (good for quiet voices)
- circular panner (many examples in this forum)
- put a voice directly in one speaker and a copy of it with polarity inversed on the opposite speaker
- chorus or haas delay effect between adjacent speakers
- fake stereo (hilbert~, one R one L, then mix that against the sum of both ) or blumlein shuffler between 2 adjacent or opposite speakers
for 2 speakers you can roughly do -1.5 db, for 4 speakers roughly -3.0 db (or use your ears i.e. do the gain staging again in the quad domain.)
