I'm a graphic designer and just graduated with my project of designing a audiovisual synthesizer. 

I call it fontesizer - as in fantasy font synthesizer. My initial goal was to also program it, and luckily had somebody to give me a crash-course in MaxMsp. Unsurprisingly, the project turned out to be much more complicated than both of us thought and I did not finish my prototype in time. I got full marks for the concept though, and I would really like to keep working on it and put my ideas into action. 

But to be honest, it is just so wildly out of my field of expertise haha. That's why I came here!

I would be super grateful for any piece of advice!! Feel free to try out the patch.

Fontesizer GUI

The sound is generated via touchpad. Velocity and Pitch depend on the x- and y- coordinates on the pad. The sign represents a thought, an "impulse". It appears in the visual output "conscience"(top white frame). Depending on the "prevailing mood/ambiance", that is determined by the faders, the sound and appearance of the sign will be modulated and modified. Faders on the right: sincerity, lucidity, immediacy. Faders on the left (functional): moodswings, excitement, mixed feelings. Moodswings = enables faders to move on their own, Excitement = sets the timer to draw the sign, and how fast they will disappear, Mixed Feelings = Will repeat previously drawn shapes and sounds, creating an overlay. At the end of the session, you can print a reality check that lists all the signs and moodchanges. (would be soo fun to have it create a little pdf or sth., but that's at the very end of the list haha)

In the patch, I was still working on a previous GUI, so it doesn't match. Maybe it will be easier to start from scratch, or there is an easier way to do this after all. To me, the fontesizer is an artistic experiment, trying to translate emotions and moods into an audiovisual experience. I don't need it to be perfect or bug-free, and maybe some of the functions have to be simplified or cut. But it would make me very happy to make it something that people can interact with.

I will add some more material and specific questions very soon. For now I just wanted to get this into the forum, after hesitating for a long time to ask for help. If you have any ideas or suggestions how to go on from here, if you are a programmer and want to give it a go, or if you have any further questions about the project, let me know!
