Issues Working With a Hardware-Controlling VST (MiniNova)
Alright, so I have a MiniNova synthesizer, and the manufacturer, Novation, has a VST out called "MiniNova Editor", which should allow me to directly change values of the hardware synth from the VST, provided the synth is attached via USB.
I've done this in Max, loading the VST and opening the GUI, and it seems to work maybe 10% of the time, but only partially, and for the other 90% of the time, the VST will sometimes detect that the synth is connected (displaying a "Connected" message in the VST's GUI and saying "editor" on the hardware's display), but much of the VST's GUI is greyed out/inaccessible, and it doesn't actually display the connected synth's patch that's loaded on it. Sometimes when this happens, messing around in the VST actually does stuff on the hardware, but sometimes it doesn't.
My goal here is to be able to control parameters of the VST using Max, and randomly change values very quickly to make a cool, "glitchy" sound on the hardware. However, since the VST seems to be completely broken for some reason, this doesn't work. I don't know if this is a Max-related issue or what, but I figured that I should post it here since I've only ever opened the VST in Max. Does anyone know what the issue here could be?
EDIT: I solved it!! I didn't mention it here, but the MiniNova has a power adapter in addition to the USB power connection that can be used, and when I used the power adapter, the VST would work but the hardware wouldn't make any noise when I pressed the keys, and said "Local Off" on the display. To solve this, I opened Ableton and just routed input from the MiniNova, since it was still sending MIDI to the computer, to Ableton's MiniNova output, sending the MIDI back to the hardware, and it worked! I can now use the VST with the hardware! I hope this helps anyone if they encounter a similar issue and stumble upon this!
