We're a big fan of Cycling 74's classic algorithmic composing software "M". The interface, particularly the "Conductor" grid and the ability to tie various parameters to it (transposition, voicing, rhythmic pattern, accents, etc.) is very useful and intuitive. Sadly, Cycling 74 does not have a version of "M" which runs on the newer 64 bit O/S and we are looking for a replacement to use on our latest platform.

Does anyone know if there is a MAX Project, or component Packages, that someone has developed which mimic the "M" interface - particularly the conductor grid?

I would suggest running M in a virtual machine emulating an older system, like https://www.vmware.com/products/desktop-hypervisor.html

We have tried to run M on a virtual machine, and have succeeded to a point, Issues we ran into were in mapping MIDI out to the physical ports on the host machine. Maybe its doable, but the current plan is to simply maintain some older platforms (e.g. Mac IIci) into the future as standalone "M Stations".

The gist of the question, though, was whether there existed any M-like interface - particularly the conductor - built in MAX which could carry the unique benefits of that interface on to new platforms.

Thanks for the response.
