Max 7 and Ableton Live 9 Standard

I'm slightly confused about the differences between Max 7 and Max for Live. I've the latest version of Ableton Live Standard installed - 9.2.2. If I download the latest version of Max 7 (one-month trial and then subscription ) can I run Max for Live devices in Ableton, without purchasing Max for Live?

There used to be a crossgrade option in earlier versions, but the comparison page of Standard vs Suite would now suggest that Max for Live is only available for the latter... https://www.ableton.com/en/live/feature-comparison/

Yes, it's confusing at times!

If you own Max and you own Live, you do not automatically own Max for Live.

To get Max for Live, you either purchase Max for Live or Live 9 Suite (which includes Max for Live) from Ableton.

There is a crossgrade for people who already own Max and want Max for Live. You can purchase that from Ableton.

There is also a crossgrade for people who already own Live 9 Suite or Max for Live and want Max. Info here: https://cycling74.com/products/crossgrade/
- Note that this is a crossgrade to a full version of Max. You get the same functionality with a Max subscription.

I recommend you look over the Crossgrade page above. There is a chart comparing the features of Max and Max for Live.
