Very nooby question, but couldn't find answers:

Why is Gen in my fully authorized Live 10 in runtime mode? How do I solve this? Cause I would like to continue developing patches containing Gen. Or do I need to reinstall Live 9 to do this?

Max itself tells me to 'get a full gen licence' but redirects me to a cycling74 page where I can do no such thing.

also - did I miss a FAQ where these things are explained?

Please get in touch with support and we shall update your account to allow gen~ editing in Live 10. We'll have a general fix for this very soon.

Just to clarify, we will have a fix for Gen editing, for those who have a Max 7 license and are using Live 10. This will be available in an upcoming version of Live in the very near future. Although a cumbersome workaround, for now you should still be able to use Max 7 to edit Gen patchers.

@MELLON I don't have a timetable for this fix, but it will be sooner than later.

Although Max technology is now bundled in Live, there may continue to be differences in the version that is bundled versus the standalone Max app.

I'm brand new to Max for Live and I'm also having this problem. I don't know if I'm trying to edit a gen~ plugin - is there a way to tell? Will I actually see gen~ somewhere? I'm trying to fix a bug in the Pluggo Stutterer effect and Max For Live both says it's authorised (when I try to authorise it) and that it's not because saving is disabled with the message that I must authorise it to enable saving. Assuming this isn't a gen~ device, is there a known cause of this problem?

I'm using Windows 10 Home, loading the editor using the edit button on the device in Live.

You can tell you are in gen~ because you have to double-click a gen~ object to edit the contents. You'll also see a different set of toolbar options on the bottom and left.

Has the ability of creating and editing gen patches been implemented into Live 10 / Max for Live yet? I'm on the fence on whether or not I want to purchase Live and this would be an important factor for me. Thanks!

So I just updated to Max 8.1.3 and opened a patch that a friend sent my way and at the top of the gen patcher window it says "Currently in runtime mode. Get a full license at [etc]."

If I have a full licence for Max, do I need a separate licence for Gen? Is this a bug? I also have Ableton Live 10 suite that I crossgraded from 9 standard, would that have messed up my Max 8 license?

Maybe you're using the bundled Max app in Live.

Try opening Live Preferences, go to the "File Folder" tab and browse to your standalone Max.

As Lska says, I would first check to see whether the version of Max that is being used when you're in Live is the bundled version (which does not support editing gen~ stuff) or your upgraded version. You'll need to check the Live application preferences, as LSKA suggests.

How would I check? I downloaded the Max 8.1.3 disk image and installed that by dragging it into the app folder after putting 8.0.5 into the trash folder. Then I right-clicked to open 8.1.3 from the app folder. Would that still possibly be Max 4 live?

Yes, if you have problems even with the standalone Max, you should contact support.
