Max 9.0.5 Windows: Crash when resizing or zooming in Edit mode (no console error)

Hello,

I'm currently using Max 9.0.5 on Windows.

I encountered a critical issue:

  • When in Edit mode,

  • If I resize the patcher window or zoom in/out (especially zoom out),

  • Max immediately crashes without any error message in the Max Console.

  • This happens regardless of whether Ableton Live is running or not.

Additional details:

  • Tested on Max 8.6.5 as well → same crash occurs.

  • Tested with different patches, even very light patches → crash still happens.

  • No third-party externals used (only standard Max objects).

  • In Windows Event Viewer, the crash report shows Exception code: 0xc000041d for Max.exe, indicating a fatal user callback exception.

  • Graphics driver is up-to-date.

  • No crash occurs on macOS; only on Windows.

Things I tried:

  • Disabling "High DPI Rendering" (Max preferences) — no change.

  • Forcing Max to use dedicated GPU — no change.

  • Monitoring GDI Objects in Task Manager — didn't hit critical numbers before crash.

Is this a known issue?

Are there any workarounds or patches planned to address this?

Thanks a lot for your help!

When I manually copy all contents of the problematic .amxd into a new .maxpat file, the crash does not occur anymore, even when zooming out or resizing the patcher window heavily.

This strongly suggests that the crash is not about patch complexity, but about how Max internally handles .amxd device files differently from .maxpat patchers.
