Max crashes/freezes sometimes while using a serial object (arduino)

Hej ya'll, well Max crashes/freezes sometimes while using a serial connect (arduino) - after I have to restart my computer. I am using a simple peakamp~ to feed the brightness of a RGB LED strip through Arduino.

I use a mac M1 pro - but this issue was similar on older macbook pros (2012).
The crashing occurs every time - and I this doesn't occur when I'm not using the serial object.
Also very strange that afterwards Max stops, when I try to open Max again, the icon just jumps up and down forever... then I always need to force a manual shut-down (hold power-button) of my laptop.

Help please!
