Max Runtime Version externals? "incorrect architecture", recompile?, 32-bit vs. 64-bit?

Hey guys,

I'm working (in Max 9) with a patch, that has externals that can't be opened due to "incorrect architecture". I read that externals that were programmed in 32-bit Version or Intel-chips cant be opened by the Macs with "M-Chips"...

So I downloaded Max 6 Runtime Version but I still can't get the patch to work correct.

The Max 6 Version can't be installed, I think it also has something to do with 32bit and 64bit?

I'm on a Mac (M3, Sequoia Version 15.4.1)

How can I get the patch and the externals to work?

Do I have to recompile the externals and if so, how do I do that?

How do I even get the externals into the "search patch" of Max 6 Runtime?

I can't contact the developers, if thats what you wanted to answer:)

Thanks in advance!

32 bit - no way on Catalina and higher.

your chances are

1 to find updated externals

2 to understand what they do and replace them with something else.

3 buy old macbook for 30 $ and run max 6 there.

Are the externals open source? Many can be recompiled with little to no changes for apple silicon, though setting up the SDK to do so is pretty involved if you've not done any C development.

Hey thanks for the answers,

I think the external thats causing the problem is Spat (spat 3.4.1.1).

But if I upgrade to a higher version, a few objects cant be found.

How do I recompile the objects?
