Older patches crash on load. What is "CrBrowserMain" ?

Trying to look at some older projects and patches originally made (and working fine) in Max 6.
Most of them cause Max7 to crash, and it's always this...

Crashed Thread: 0 CrBrowserMain Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread

Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x000000006573552f

I've seen this with some of my Max7 patches as well.

Does anyone know what CRBrowserMain is, and does it point to a problem with anything in particular?

thanks...

i looked this up last night. was waiting to see if anyone else knew. i am definitely not an expert on the matter. but CrBrowserMain references Chrome Browser.

What I could find about the exceptions suggest deleting preferences.

might want to report your info here: https://cycling74.com/max6-bug-form/

Thanks Wil.

Which leads to another question. When deleting preferences to clear problems in Max 7, does one delete the whole folder or just specific preference files?
Previously when I was getting this problem, deleting what appeared to be the main pref file (can't remember the name, and not at my computer at the moment) cleared the crash, but it kept coming back. So I'm wondering if there's a browser specific one I should delete.
Is Chrome Browser the engine for the Max Browser?

Anyways, I'll get something off to support later today.

not sure where the plist is. i looked around but not sure which of the zillion hidden folders they are in. probably should ask support to sure.

not sure why you have a browser related crash. unless you are using max to open a webpage, then it will just open your default browser. really, i just searched your crash report and it led to Chrome. might not be related at all.

Thanks again, Wil.

Chrome ( Chromium Embedded Framework ) is used since Max 7 for jweb, documentation, etc. Not related to launching your default browser, which might be different from Chrome. CEF is even embedded in Max 7 applications now.

There is also a jit.cef object reference page in Max 7 (though no object nor help file...)

It would be interesting to know more about this bug, why it happens:
I hope someone from c74 will answer here.

@Wil - the preferences are (on my machine) here...
/Users/davidstevens/Library/Application Support/Cycling '74
There's a _lot of stuff in there, including a bunch from Max6.
What to delete!? (presumably maxpreferences.maxpref)

As JEAN-FRANCOIS mentioned, hopefully someone with higher level clearance will reply here. Those exceptions are very specific. If you search them, all types of weird stuff comes up.

Just keep bumping the thread till someone who knows more chimes in.

Wondering, what mac do you have? What system?

Also, have you updated to 7.0.4? Im using it now, zero crashes. I am also using Apple Yosemite (and a huffin and puffin 2011 Macbook Pro that turns red hot soon as I start processing audio)... But for me,. always use the newest system updates and newest program updates - (and just in case, keep a lot of candles, pencils and staff paper ready to go!).

edit: i just read your OP. I am using 10.10.3... might be an issue with 10.10.4...
