There're some weird issue after updating to Mojave, I suggest install Max again, maybe jit.grab will work

I downloaded the new version of MAX (8.2), same problem ... (with Mojave!)

I would suggest going to the System Preference and looking under Security & Privacy. Then under the Privacy tab see if Max is allowed to access the camera.
