First of all, how shortsighted was it of cycling 74 to implement a program-wide color change of patch cords to gray when the default background color for all Max for Live devices is GRAY? I'm getting really sick of having to change this color to something else, subpatcher by subpatcher in every device I have. Please tell me there's some config file somewhere I can edit to change this all at once; why would they force a universal change like this on us without us being able to universally change it back?

I have already found the Default Max 7 template in the /resources/templates folder and changed it to my liking, but this only affects new subpatches (and you still have to remember to go in and change Subpatcher Template to Default Max 7 every time you start a new device.) What about all the dozens and dozens of subpatchers that I'm already actively working with? I have to change Subpatcher Template to Default Max 7 in each of them too if I ever want to make a new subpatcher in one.

These aren't the only two things I need to change in every subpatcher I have. Snap to Grid is definitely something I need on by default. I want my Grid Size at 10 x 10, my font at size 10 and, less-necessarily, Show Grid on Open by default. These are all things I don't remember having to change more than once with Max 6. Not to mention with the font white and the background color of objects dark grey rather than solid black, text isn't perfectly crisp and things are a little harder to read than they could be.

Maybe there's some way for Styles to alleviate some of this? That's something I haven't spent (wasted) any time figuring out yet. I hate when a company makes needless aesthetic changes that wind up compromising function. It's a programming language for the love of fuck. Who cares what it looks like, it just has to work.

Just wanted to say I also agree. I feel the aesthetic changes made things worse. It was easier to understand and work with when everything was lighter, clinical and precise. Yes, it may look "cooler" but that's really unimportant. I've gotten used to it, but I didn't like it.

Thanks for the link. It doesn't look like Styles will be that helpful to me after all though, even if I could get them to work, which I can't seem to. It would amount to being able to change a few of the necessary colors at once instead of having to individually. I thought you might be able to change a Style just once in an existing device and have it apply to all of its subpatchers at the same time, but I don't think that's the case.
