No MIDI input sources showing up on MIDI setup

Hi,

I have a Max patch that I'm trying to get working with Ableton Live. I tried to use this link

https://docs.cycling74.com/max7/vignettes/max_and_other_apps

for help, but as it says

"Choose MIDI Setup... from the Options menu to show the MIDI Setup Window.

  • Verify that the input sources “to Max 1” and “to Max 2” are on (i.e. that the “on” checkboxes are checked)."

the only input source that's available in my MIDI Setup Window is Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth. This might be a very easy question but I got no idea as to how to solve it by myself, as I don't know whether I can add those input options somewhere. Thanks to anyone who can help in advance.

Stupid question : do you open Max before opening Live ? Are you opening the midi setup menu from Max application, or from Max for Live editor ?
Also it seems you are a bit confused between input and output : Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth should only be a MIDI Output option afaik since it is the internal midi synthesizer for Windows (although i am not on Windows, the mac equivalent is DLS Synthesizer and it's only an output channel).
But if you don't see something that does look like to Max 1 and/or to Max 2, you may have a problem.

Oh yeah,MS GS WT Synth is indeed an output option, you're right about that. I can't seem to have any inputs then showing in my Max application.

Regarding your first question: originally I opened Max before opening live, and opened the midi setup menu from Max application. I also tried from Max for Live editor but the result was the same..

ok, its definitely strange that no midi channels are created by Max. I wonder if on Windows maybe you must do additional manipulations to allow for that, like installing a midi driver. Try to look for inormaiton about that. But maybe something is weird in your max application authorization, you may wanna try a clean reinstall. Im sorry i don't know windows well, so cant help more :/ that said if you're not eager to debug this problem and need quickly a working solution, you can try to use m4l which should be traightforward regarding midi routing from and to Live.

I'm having the same problem.
I'm not seeing a download link... It seems like you need to contact the creator to get it?
Wondering if anyone has found a simple solution... All I need is to get midi data out of Max and into Ableton.
Thanks!

I'm using loopMIDI on Windows 10 to create virtual MIDI ports, but Max still doesn't see them (even though other apps, like Cubase and Ableton, do). Like others here, the only port available is the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth.

What's especially weird is that this is only happening on one of my Windows 10 machines -- another one works just fine.

Anyone have any tips? This is a complete show-stopper.

Did you add the ports inside loopMidi?
