VTdecoderxpcservice
Hey all,
I'm using a recent Mac Mini with Mojave and when I try to skip frames in a video file the process "VTdecoderxpcservice" pops up and freezes the whole computer for about 5 seconds, making my jitter patches unusable. I ran a spindump in Activity Monitor and Max is launching that process. Patch attached. Works fine on an older Mac (MacBook Pro Early 2015, Sierra) but hangs on a 2018 Mini with Mojave.
any ideas? Searching the web for VTdecoderxpcservice gives me no useful leads.
patch looks good to me and I can't reproduce on 10.14 over here. VTdecoderxpcservice is simply Apples AVF video decoder.
maybe a restart?
Hey Rob, thanks for thinking along.
I've discovered that compression flavour makes a difference. Previously I've used ProRes Proxy or PhotoJPEG for frame skipping, which still works great on the old show computer but these files hang almost immediately on the new computer. I've recompressed the files as mp4 and now it works better, but when playing lots of fast notes the patch still hangs after a while. I've inserted a qlim for now but would prefer to feel safe playing fast ;-)
I can send the video files and full patch if you want to take a closer look. I can see VTdecoderxpcservice popping up several times in Activity Monitor, and when the patch hangs one instance of it suddenly takes upwards of 300% cpu for several seconds.
