In the following forum post, I found a Schroeder Reverb written completely in genExpr:

and I saw that the allpass filters and comb filters are described in the following way:

I see this kind of approach in all genExpr codes. But can't we write this something similar to this? (ignore vec since it doesn't work in gen dsp apparently, take it as a pseudo-code):

In addition,  array structures are not available on genExpr. Doesn't this create an extreme handicap, how do you all overcome this? 

Sidenote: I also would appreciate if anyone has an online resource for genExpr Syntax. The documentation doesn't seem to cover all the capabilities.

I make music using SuperCollider and code mostly in Python, with a basic knowledge of C++ syntax, so the two of the several things that always pushed me back from Max was having to do simple operations through connecting cables and not being able to define a function.   I think cables get out of control pretty quickly and I don't want to spend time moving things around too much. With the new Max 9 update, I saw that the usage of codebox has been extended, so I thought I would give it a try. My aim is to use either gen or javascript codeboxes as much as I can, to reduce the amount of cables and objects and also because I feel more comfortable with that kind of syntax.

hey there. so i am building this little retrigger ratchet thingy which creates a specifiy amount of re-triggers based on the value in that int box. it works just fine when i trigger the bang manually. weirdly, when i plug in the trigger genarator in the patch (callled propabilistic trigger generator) my ratchet engine will only put out the correct amount of triggers after at the very first trig. every trig after it will miss out the last re-trigger. it is quite reliable with that missing out, though i dont get what is the reason for it. any ideas? also open for any aspects of more elegant soloutions for this patch. thx in advance for your help, it is really apreciated as usual :)

I've got a simple delay line as part of a bigger patch I've been working on and it has some delay time modulation. I started with a triangle lfo - no problems there. Then I wanted some variety, so I added the ability to skew the triangle to an up/down ramp, to reset the lfo, and to latch/sample-and-hold the modulated delay time. And of course all of these generate clicks in the signal. I can avoid the clicks when engaging the latch/sah by using the delay_morphed_times_no_pitch_change patch from the GO book to crossfade between delay taps when the delay time change occurs. But I'm stuck on how to adapt the patch to avoid the clicks caused by the ramps and lfo reset and also keep the pitch modulation. Maybe latch the delay time of one tap right before the sharp change occurs, then crossfade over after somehow? I haven't figured out how to do that yet.

I'm still pretty new to Max and gen~, but I'm trying to make an FM synth and have ran into a problem. My goal was to make a 4 op FM synth with a matrix so every operator can modulate any other/itself. 

So far I have 2 operators, and everything's working except for when I want to modulate op 2 with op 1. As I increase the amplitude, it sounds like it's just adding the value of the dial to the phasor's output instead of adding the operator signal. But when I do it the other way around, modulating op 1 with op 2, it works perfectly. The two operators are identical in the gen patcher, so I'm at a loss for what the problem is.

Basically, I'm unable to increase op 1's amplitude in order to modulate op 2.

In the gen patcher below, I disconnected the cycle from the multiplier because the DSP won't work upon startup if it's connected. After DSP is turned on, when I connect them, DSP will work but the result is the same. It just adds the dial's value to the phasor of op 2, which is what it does without the patch cable connected.

It's probably something simple, but again I'm new to Max.

Hi, I'm using gen codebox on a project for the first time, trying to figure out the syntax. 

I'm getting an error saying a variable hasn't been declared that I have clearly declared just a few lines prior. What is causing this?

Here is a screenshot of my error which states:
