I'd like to make a device that's able to merge midi from two channels together into one.

For example, I have one drum pad at home with which I like to drum in everything. Logically, every line I play on this instrument ends up on one note. In my ideal setup, I'd have a second midi channel with long legato melodic notes which would be sidechained to the single drum channel. The pitch information of this channel would be merged with all the other midi information from the drum channel.

This way, I would be able to drum in melodic lines with a single pad. This would also be handy for live use.

I know it's possible to sidechain midi into a M4L audio effect, is it also possible in a midi effect?

I'm looking for a m4l device that shows the values of any parameter I add in a seperate window. So that when i turn a knob or make any change to a parameter, I can see this in the pop up window without having to go to the channel I just where I adjusted a parameter.

ex. I have a channel with multiple drum racks grouped in an instrument rack. I mapped the chain selector to a macro knob to select another drum rack. It would be nice to have a seperate window that shows me I'm on the second or either which chain without going back to the instrument rack to check if I'm in the right drum rack.

I hope my explenation is a bit clear. Would be great to have a device ready or somebody showing me the way to make it in m4l. I'm an intermediate user of m4l.

The example "route midi input" in the maxhelp file for live.routing is ostensibly a MIDI device, so presumably it is intended to work. After loading that example into a MIDI device, the ports do not load, and I get this error:

If I copy the example (minus the midiin and midiout objects) to an audio device, it works. 

I tried messing with live.thisdevice, etc. but it does not work. 

Any ideas? Is this a bug? Or, despite the example, is it not supposed to work in a MIDI device?

I'm trying to create a subpatch which has an input bang and then which (after other things) display a random number. The "simple" random thing is not enough so thats why the subpatch just for clarification, but thats not really the topic.

How can I use arguments/attributes/etc to set a number from outside of the subpatch?

The problem is, that I can set this number as an inlet, but I get too many inlets in my main patch... Ideally it would be an attribute parameter in the inspector or something like that, but so far I was not lucky.

Tried using $1 or #1 kind of things but I don't get how they're supposed to work.

I've just started learning MAX for Live and I'm following tutorials from someone on MAX MSP. I'm still not sure 100% how to translate patches into Max For Live from MAX MSP, and this is an example of such a problem. In the tutorial, the person makes this simple patch (on the left - noteout), and drags her mouse across the keyslider resulting in generic grand piano sounds. This didn't work for me in Max For Live using noteout, so I looked around and tried experimenting with midiout (the stuff on the right). However, I was unable to get any sound. I tried connecting to plugout which I understand is the only way to get audio out of Max for Live, but I don't know how one goes from makenote to plugout (I got an error-plugout doesn't recognize int). Also, I tried doing this both on a Max Instrument and Max Audio Effect template but still to no avail.

I'm surprised that I haven't been able to find a Serum-like  'FM-from-B'   m4l device out there, in which the frequency of an audio signal can be mapped to parameters in Live similarly to the Envelope Follower device.  I've fooled around with retune~ and it is providing me with reasonable frequency data, ...

BUT: I can't figure out how to convert that data into useable input for the  Abl. MultiMap  patcher.    The output of the mapping seems binary even after I used the scale object (input 0-20,000; output 0-1.) and regardless of the min / max settings in the device's UI.

Hi, i'm currently porting my sensor interfacing patches into M4L and use live.remote~ a lot for parameter control. With the api resource patches and some modifications i was able to port most of my settings. But i'd like do make the mapping of remote controlls more accurate by retrieving the selected parameters range and unit and then have the modulation range max and min number boxes automatically adjust their displayed range accordingly. So if i chose an EQ-eight's A-1Frequency parameter, they would have a Range of 30 (Hz) to 20000 (Hz) but when i chose the Frequency of an LFO in a Chorus, they'd be something like 0.1 to 10 (Hz) or 0 to 100 (%) for a dry wet. But for most parameters the range you can get from live.object is the raw 0.-1. range. Is there a standard range (0. always translating to 30 Hz for frequencies for example)? Or not at all?
